My first and probably last entry in 's contest. Sometimes I wish I had no life to interupt the things I actually enjoy doing.
Biggest problem in this is the transition between what Rob plans to happen and the visuals of what actually happens followed by Nyrah speaking. More frames would have helped but I didn't have time to draw them... SO VERY, VERY SORRY...
So here's how things went.
Day 1:
This contest started the same day I was to move out of the dorms. So my computer was packed and I didn't know who my opponent was.
Day 2:
Work and then unpacked all day. Found out who my opponent was that evening, but I was too tired to care.
Day 3:
Work, helped some friends build the cases for the portable torii our anime club made, and then booked a flight back home for the summer. I got a huge splinter deep in my hand.
Day 4:
Work and then drew a page and a half, and planned a lot of it.
Day 5:
Work, groceries, packed for Anime Central, work, and imagined that I'd actually have time to draw more while at ACEN, hand still hurt like a b*tch after digging the splinter out the previous night.
Day 6:
Left for ACEN.
Day 7:
ACEN
Day 8:
ACEN
Day 9:
ACEN, left ACEN, ran out of gas on the highway, continued leaving ACEN.
Day 10 (deadline):
Got home at 8 AM, fell asleep, woke up, and rushed a lot of this entry. Mostly I'm disappointed in myself for not making the page of fight scenes and having to cut/collage what I was able to draw in a moving van. Tommorow afternoon, I leave on a plane for home. So if I don't respond to an important message here, it's because I'm packing up, in an airport, on a plane, or generally dead.
owns the three zombies and malenkova.

The Judge Man thinks you have done a great job with introducing the story and with drawing your opponent's character. Everything is legible and the drawings are clear, however, it is difficult to follow what is happening in certain places.
One thing the Judge Man is critical of is the lack of action. While he does find the epic looking "FAIL" highly amusing, focusing on what actually happens between the characters is important to this contest. Instead of reducing the interaction to a portion of the last page, it should've have been the other way around. Bit of introduction at first, followed by more interaction between characters.
Your fonts and speech bubbles flow smoothly, however, and your panel designs are nice. Did The Judge Man mention that he liked the witch character near the beginning? It reminds him of his mom.

Very amusing! Only one thing... Malenkova is a man.

And Rui doesn't speak english. So I guess we're even...
(It ended with an "a" and had voodoo witch written all over it. So, sorry I suppose.)

We're even, you're completely right.

Don't we all wish we had no life...don't we all...And I say this as I get myself a summer job. Pssh, a hypocrite is me.
Anyways, It's a solid entry I would say. Nothing super-spectacular like your final entry in the last competition (OC Overflow or something, right?), but I like it. Yes, it would have benefited from more panels, but you did good with what you had. Lulz at the "FAIL", that was comedic gold IMO.
I keep switching back and forth between your entry and Syethain's, and I personally think it's gonna be a hard one to judge. Syethain's has more actual fighting in it (ironically Rui's the one doing the fighting), but it seems to end too abruptly; also that didn't look like an iron to me. Yours had to cut the fighting short, but it still worked, and didn't seem THAT detached. But we'll see what the judges have to say, aye?
Sorry to hear about that splinter; those things suck. How was ACEN, by the way?

"also that didn't look like an iron to me."
haha, sorry but I read your comment by accident and I just wanted to point out that I used this as model...

Mhm, I see. Didn't mean to insult you or anything, it just didn't look like an iron to me. When I think of an iron, it usually looks something like this [link] or this [link] , but I can see how I'd get confused now, since you used an older style of iron. But hey, whatever works to bean your opponent with, aye?

yes, I understand your confusion. I'm bad at drawing anything that's not human I specialized myself the last few years at drawing people... so I suck at backgrounds and other objects.
No offense taken Actually I'm glad with the comparison, it's very interesting to see what the good and bad points are.

How ironic...I'm bad at drawing anything that IS human. Sometimes I really wish it was the other way around, but whatever, at least it's better than nothing.
'Cause of course, if I could draw humans, I'd actually be in a contest like this, rather than commenting from the sidelines. Which is still fun too.

we could collaborate! You do the backgrounds, I do the characters!

Lulz . Personally, I think I'd collab better as a writer, not a drawer. Just because I can draw non-human things doesn't mean I'm good at drawing them. It just means I can.
Also, why would I want to collab with you; you knocked my friend out of the contest!
Just kidding, I know it wasn't you fault. It was a real close decision, nothing anyone really could have done about it.

let's say the best has won...
no, I'm kidding. I was scared of her, really. I read her previous comics for that other contest and I was convinced I had no chance against her... Guess I was lucky.
Well if you can draw things, that's a good start, things can only get better from now on!

A good start is quite a good place to start!
And yeah, Grim kinda got caught up in real life. College, work, moving to a new house, plus that ACEN convention that ate up three or four days. Grim definitely does some good work, but, well, when life hands you a lemon, you waste a whole lot of time making that lemonade.
Wait, what did I just say?

...uhh, something about lemonade?
I understand it completely. The deadline was horribly short.
I had to forfait the 2nd round due to time problems and exams. isn't that ironic.

Wow, bummer. Grim's comment comes to mind: "Sometimes I wish I had no life to interrupt the things I actually enjoy doing." But only people who don't have to worry about money or school can do that. Grrr, stupid money.

yes, bummer... and the fun jobs are mostly the ones that are rare or unwanted. Like, I'd love to study 'animation movie'. Why don't I do it? Because there's no work certainty. x_X

ACEN turned out great. Or at least the parts of it I got around to seeing. Came back with about $250 worth of swag in the form of small figurines, keychains, and video games. Trip was long, but well worth it...
Anyway, I'm back in my hometown now so I have to look for a summer job as well... I'll also be learning a good chunk of japanese this summer and otherwise all my time will be dedicated to all the art projects (especially this one) that I keep having to put off.

Two hundred fifty?! Wow, I can't really even imagine buying that much, especially in multiple small items (Because it wouldn't be that hard to bust a few hundred on something like a weapon). But as long as you're satisfied with it. I should probably go to a con or something one of these days, but I'm really not a big enough fan of anything to go. Sigh, looks like it'll just be Nanocon for me again. Which I would hardly call a con anyways...
Man, I wish I could spend all my "otherwise" time on writing/deviantARTing, but my parents will hear nothing of it. They're gonna make me clean out the barn this summer, and that's going to be long. Grumble grumble...
