Ari had been travelling outside of Wynsiph for the past few months, researching ruins and trying to find his family from his childhood. Initially, he had only planned to be gone for a week. He had heard rumours of his family nearby and had gone to investigate, but each time he got near it seemed he had just missed them or had been distracted by fascinating ruins for too long to catch up. It had gone on for long, perhaps too long, but Ari was so driven in his goal, he hadn't really thought of much else since starting his journey. That is until today.

He had woken early in hopes of catching up in the next town. As he started his walk, a simple floaty fruit for his breakfast, something had caught his eye.

A single black feather floating on the breeze.
Ari stopped dead in his tracks and watched as it gently floated down and drifted past his nose. He knew that colour...
"Ava?" he whispered under his breath as the feather slowly continued down the path without him.

Ava, his treasured magician. She was at home.
Alone.
She had been for months.
He hadn't seen her in months.
Suddenly overcome by panic, Ari dropped the fruit and ran forward, reaching desperately for the little feather.
"No, Wait!" he yelled as tears stung his eyes "Please don't leave, I'm sorry!" With an outstretched claw, he grasped the delicate feather tightly in his claws and held it against his chest. His body shook with emotion, how could he be so blinded by the need to find a family that didn't want to be found, that he had left the most important thing to him alone for so long?

"I'm sorry," he whispered, to the little feather, "I'll be home soon."

Very short story, cause I am a bit too tired to write anything more.
