A re-visit of my…second try at a redesign. There’s not much difference, but some pattern work. I know what you are thinking, and that’s about her cloak or cape, but in my version, her powers makes the cloak or the cape. It envelopes her when she needs it, to pull to around her to protect her or lash out for attacks. Its smoky-ish like how steam comes off the body in extreme cold weather. Her gauntlets have the “Eyes of Trigon” which allows her to do ‘darker’ things, kind of a Pan’s Labyrinth thing.
The best feature, imo, is the lip ring. Its an expression of her, not what was given to her or inheirited, but her choice. But thats me.

It' an interesting premise in terms of the cape not being just a cape but I worry that then it is too much like Cloak from the Marvel Universe. In terms of ethnicity I like the Earth One take that Raven is Native American. The gauntlets feel a little too Witchblade for me. Raven is all about the turmoil and conflicts inherent to being both demon and human, the rebellion of things like piercings or tats or hairstyles being personal choices versus the legacy of everything else fits, great idea. The wonder (I think) of redesign is the ability to re-present a known character to an audience with a look and rationale that is fresh but that makes us say "oh yeah, THAT'S her!"

Is it just me or does raven have a Pacific Islander look in her face? Because if it's deliberate, it gives her an even more exotic feel than portraying her as a Caucasian female.

I think thats a pretty good assessement. To me, she was never Caucasian, because they (DC colorists) never consistently colored her that was, it was more reds, tans, and browns. With computer coloring now, it would seem that they made her very pale and gothy, which is too bad.

I love it. This is one of my all time favorite characters, and you've given her an awesome and genuinely interesting redesign. I would love to see this in place of the New 52 Raven.

Thanks. Another chance for DC to make Raven.....I don't want to say contemporary, but relevant. She's very powerful but is never written or designed that way. If she's going to be dark and emo and gothy, it should reflect in her design, because there isn't much difference between Raven and Rachel.
