The S&M C Class as stated above were built for running passenger trains to the mainland, but this didn't happen, Lilith was the only one built to the C class Specification whilst Edaline was built using frames that would have been used for another member of the O1, as such Lilith was a prim and proper in her words passenger engine, whilst Edaline was hardy and more like the freight engines.

Both would be put on loan to the W&GWR for two years before moving to the NWR, they worked passengers trains on the Peel Godred line until the later 1910s' when they were sent to work passenger trains on the mainline.
