That's a lot of memory usage, lol! Well, if you have trouble finding stuff to nuke to give yourself some breathing room, you could always get an external hard drive and transfer stuff to there.

I've done that before...just stopped working one day. No warnings like clicks or anything. ugh

Oh man. That's unlucky... You must've gotten a faulty external hard drive then or something.

External hard drive is fine. What happened was the custom components WD had for their enclosure that stopped working. I have the hard drive here right now in an anti-static bag...still waiting for a new enclosure.

Never ordered one yet. Need to find one that will work for me.

Ah ok, I misunderstood then. What I thought was that you ordered one already because you said you were still waiting for a new enclosure.

God made external Hard-drives.. and it was good...
You should try to get yourself a terabyte or two for all your pony needs! I have all the episodes in HD, plus 50 movies and over 2000 songs and youtube videos and i still have space to waste!

Since it's a piece of Cake to install another HD in a PC, i'm curious about if it's that easy/possible for a Mac, too?

Somewhat, but macs come with other, crazy options like the pegasus external hd, it has a min 4 tb upgradeable to 12 tb and can write files @ 1 gbps using the thunderbolt port.

Starts at 1179 Dollar for 4 TB.
Also available for PC, too.

Firewire/Thunderbolt port isn't though, which is basically the reason I would buy that particular brand.

What? My PC has a Firewire-port, thats nothing Apple-Exclusive.
Same thing with Thunderbolt, can be found already on a few expensive PC's, i expect it to be more common in a few Years.

Eh, damn,
Well then, it comes down to a matter of preference, I prefer apples OSX interface, as well as the awesome community that it comes with (part of it at least) its ease of use and customize-ability make it perfect for me.
Not to mention, if i want to play games, I could use a wrapper, or (like i have) boot camp it with windows seven.

da-andi In reply to lol1759 [2012-05-27 16:09:39 +0000 UTC]
There are two Reasons for me why i dont buy a Mac:
1st.) Damn they are expensive! They easily reach up to double the Value of a PC with comparable Specs.
Ok, the Design is first-class and the Quality of Hard- and Software is also on a very high Level. Furthermore, you can just plug it in and it works. I have to admit, this all sounds interesting to me.
But as long as i cant shit Gold, i prefer to live with my cheap Plastic-looking PC with his drawbacks, i've learned to deal with them so far.
2nd.) (that may be sound offensive for you, but i will tell you anyway, because i want to be mean honest: ) I dont like the Image of Apple.
In my humble Opinion Apple slowly becomes a Status-symbol, usually for Hipsters and other People i dont like. Lemme Show you a Picture: [link]
Now, tell me about "think different"...

I fucking hate apple as well.
But damn are their products nice.
Its a catch twenty two with me in the middle. Nothing I can do about that.
And imo, hipsters cant afford nice things so you can tell them apart from "real" apple product users because they have the lowest tier stuff and its usually unmodified (ie jailbroke/bootcamped)

da-andi In reply to lol1759 [2012-05-27 16:43:40 +0000 UTC]
You hate Apple? Ok, thats the first time i hear this from an actual Apple-user. Let me tell you, i am quite astonished.
Hipsters and Idiots can afford stuff like that, especially the Idiots. Because they are usually dumb enough to take another Loan from the Bank, getting lost in the debt entanglement...
I know a bunch of (young) People who cant handle Money, and i bet you know some, too.
Apple really is some sort of strange, dangerous Drug, capable of ruining your whole Bank-Account if you dont be carefully...

lol1759 In reply to da-andi [2012-05-27 16:51:28 +0000 UTC]
Yea, I cant stand the way apple locks down their products and basically makes hacking them NECESSARY to having fun with them >.<
And yea, apple wouldn't be my drug, tech in general would be. I wanted a tablet, so I went out and bought the best one I could afford. An Intuos 4 small, and it completely cleaned me out...
I just like nice things, but im not stupid enough to mistake crap for being nice.
If I were to ever go back to pc (and i used to be an avid pc user) I would have to build my own. I just cant trust other people anymore.
Apples extremely high quality assurance tests are what keep me coming back. And that's one of the Only things keeping me their.

Thats why i build my own PC's for about 10 Years now.
I had a few PC's out-of-the-Box before that, and i was disappointed about them, because they contained a lot of 2nd-grade Hardware and crappy Workmanship.
Anyway, thats the most reasonable Pro-Apple-Statement i've heard since a while.

adamlhumphreys In reply to da-andi [2012-05-26 23:52:35 +0000 UTC]
Pretty much. Since they dropped the PowerPC architecture, theyβve been a little more versatile software-wise, but unless you get a tower for 2 or 3 times the cost of a PC with similar specs, thereβs no real way to expand without replacing an existing component. (Unless it specifies there is physical room for expansion. If not, thereβs always the option of rigging a hard drive on the outside because the ports are probably there.
)
But Macs arenβt the only computers with special case hardware. I steer clear of Compaq and Dell too.
