The young author stood in the airport lobby…slightly irritated…she had been waiting for ages for her ride to get there. She pulled her cell phone out and checked the time. He was an hour late. She let out a low growl and sent him yet another text. She stood there tapping her foot, in the unfamiliar airport in the country she hadn’t been in since a few weeks during the summer in her youth. She sighed as she received no response and walked over to the taxi stand. Luckily she knew the address where she would be staying…as well as where HE would be staying…so she could kick his British ass once she got there. She stood there waiting to see when someone would notice her, it didn’t take long for the young woman and older gentleman to notice the wholly irritated American.

“Now there lass, a sour expression doesn’t do yer pretty face justice.” The older gentleman said smiling.

No matter how irritated she was a Scottish accent never failed to bring a smile to her face, “Thank you…but I’m ready to murder someone…” she said with a defeated sigh.

“Why?” the young woman asked her green eyes curious.

“I had a ride.” She said, “And he’s decided to be a complete flake…and not pick me up.”

“Oh, that’s too bad.” The gentleman said, “So I take it ye need a cab?” he asked looking up when the next round of taxis would be arriving.

“That would be lovely…good thing I got the address…they can take me out of the city right?” she asked.

“I take it ye goin to a small town.” He said.

“Yes, just outside Edinburgh but, yes.” She told him with an embarrassed smile, “And you can be sure I’ll be getting every single cent of my cab fare back from my would-be ride.”

“I’d do the same.” The young woman said as she found the right cab, “There’s Ashley…but he hits on every American woman who gets in his cab…I dinnae think she’s in the mood for that…”

The man nodded, “Nay, I dinnae want him to take her outside the city, I dinnae trust ‘im far as I can throw ‘im.” He said.

“You’re a lot more courteous and concerned than most American’s in the same position…” the young woman noted.

“We dinnae like to make enemies…especially when they’ve been left behind…” he told her, “I prefer to be kind, it make things so much easier.”

“I agree.” The young woman nodded with a smile, these two were making things easier on her.

“Ah, now here’s one I do trust, Connor is about to be back, I’ll tell im he’s got his next fare and she’s goin out of the city.” He said and did just that.

“Thank you both so much.” The tired young woman said relieved.

“It’s no trouble.” The young Scottish woman said and her elder nodded before pointing the author to a cab.

The young woman made sure to give them both a tip for their kindness and hurried over to try and wrangle her three bags into the back of the cab. Luckily Connor was a strong young, taken (wedding ring) man who was polite enough to do it for her. She thanked him and got in the back seat with a relieved smile on her face.

A the cab pulled up in front of the inn and pub in the small town just outside of Edinburgh the young author paid him and gave him a nice tip, making a mental note of how much money that Brit would owe her now. She smiled and thanked him.

“Let me help ye with yer bags.” He said, “They’re rather heavy.”

“Yes…well…I’ll be here for a while…I needed to be sure I had everything I might need.” She said blushing softly in embarrassment.

“Nothing wrong with that.” He said with a kind smile and she led him into the lobby next to the pub and rang the bell.

“Hello there lass, checking in?” the man behind the counter asked.

“Yes.” She said with an exasperated sigh, “At last.”

“Ye seem like ye’ve been through Hell an back.” He said.

“I feel that way…my ride flaked.” She said through gritted teeth, “My name is (First Name) (Last Name).” she said.

“Alright, ye’re in room three, I’ll help ye with yer bags from here.” He said and took her two heavier bags from the cab driver.

“Thank you.” She said and then turned to the cab driver, “And thank you again for driving me all the way out here.”

“It was no trouble lass, have a nice stay.” He said and gave her his card for when she was heading home.

The man behind the counter led her up to her room and they set her bags in there. As he went to leave she stopped him.

“Could you tell me something, is there an Man named Arthur down in the pub?” she asked, “He’s a blond Brit…and is about to have his ass kicked by a woman.”

“You mean the Kirkland lad, aye, he is, I take it the younger brother of the owner of the pub was your ride.” He said.

She nodded, “Yes, so if you’ll excuse me.” She said with a smile concealing her anger as she made her way down into the pub.

She looked around and saw him next to the bar with a drink in hand, he was still sober enough, probably only had one drink, so being drunk was no excuse. Her eye twitched as she made her way over to him, right behind him and tapped his shoulder so politely. When he turned around she just clocked him right across the jaw.

“You left me stranded at the airport you jerk!” she cried as he looked up at her in a daze his hand to his face.
