Description Edit: OMFG a DD thank you Tara Roys and DanHeffer-Stock!!!

This is Deciphering Fractals: A Beginner's Guide to Understanding Apophysis' flame pack.

It contains 580 different fractal parameters. It has every fractal mentioned in each tutorial.

Have fun!

pretty cool I will have to check these things out, I have no idea where to start on apophysis and mostly just been doing random stuff :>

If you need any help feel free to send me a note and I'll do my best to answer any questions

I also suggest you go look at Claire Jone's tutorials, they'll definitely help (I learned how to use Apophysis via her tutorials, before I read them I was completely clueless about everything )

Thanks, what slightly bothers me about some of the great fractals is that, I'm not sure how to figure out how to use the small variables. Like my last two apophysis were done with a tutorial that used .03 as variables on stuff :> I wouldn't even think of using something so small yet it works great.

And...I'm not the greatest with tutorials :> As those two were made with mistakes, some tutorial's take me 5-10 times to get it to work and even then I still make mistakes heh :>

You'd be surprised what small numbers can do For example blur at 0.1 can still completely blur a fractal out if you're not careful. Some variations are more powerful than others.

My tutorials should be quite clear, I did my best to make them really easy to follow

(At least I hope I did )

Also, another easy way of learning is by exploring flame files. If you don't want to poke around inside of apophysis to figure it out, just hit ctrl + c and post the flame code into notepad. Then you can dissect it without having to flip through all sorts of tabs (The coding tells you everything).

What are the best ways to either gain more dust, or to make the dust more solid? The first I've run into troubles where the ammount of dust over time thins out so much that any change just ends up stealing dust from whats already there, rather then spreading it out.

for me to gain more dust (noise) would mainly just be a matter of adding a linear and moving/resizing the transform and the weight setting, play with those and xaos to keep it from "stealing" the other parts of your dev.
To make it more solid is more of a render setting (in my experience), like 10,000 quality will turn that noise into a plastic/balloon looking render

You mean the grain/noise? Well, it depends on each fractal. Each and every single one will react differently to various things. Its just something you have to explore.

Yeah, I call it dust because thats sort of what it reminds me of when you have the blur effect thinned out enough. Can't wait untill 7x 16, but still unsure what to use for variations out of the hundreds for now heh :>

That's another mostly exploring thing, its to your taste really. For example I use crackle and bipolar a lot, but others use different ones. I suggest you add them as you run across them in tutorials

Oh yeah I just mean that there is 400+ out there, but only about 100 can be used at a time :>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TsukinoHikari20 In reply to wolfwings1 [2011-09-02 08:07:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, you probably won't ever use all 400

Just install what you need over time, makes it a lot easier

wolfwings1 In reply to TsukinoHikari20 [2011-09-02 08:32:35 +0000 UTC]

well I know 400 :> But without having a clue what even half of them do :> Makes it hard to chose 400, or what to drop to try others.

TsukinoHikari20 In reply to wolfwings1 [2011-09-02 08:41:25 +0000 UTC]

Well, google around, you should be able to find plenty of fractal images with the variation in their name See what you like Look at various tutorials, add what they recommend.

There's also someone who compiled a list of the most commonly used variations but I cannot seem to find it

wolfwings1 In reply to TsukinoHikari20 [2011-09-02 09:48:37 +0000 UTC]

well hopefully it will be moot soon when 7x 16 comes out with the ability to have all plugged in :>

from my understanding the program will only load those your using at the time, so your not stuck trying to juggle or something like that.

Thank you, I'm editing that in now. I'll get that part re-uploaded in the Amalthea area, but I can't re-upload it in the main tutorial. (It takes over a hour on my connection to upload files that big )

I wouldn't worry about re-uploading the big one. Just put a note in the Artist's description.
