Description
This is a piece I did for my printmaking class a couple years ago, and to this day it's still one of my favorite things I've made. It's an 9x12" reduction linocut, meaning part of the design was carved into a block, then printed, carved, printed, and repeated for the desired amount of colors. I printed about 12 of these (2 or 3 were mistakes or off center), and this reddish one is one of my favorites. If you'd like to see a couple of variations, you can find them here and hereThe project's theme was "Mapping," and I felt like really stretching that idea and mapping out a story within the tiger's stripes (which was hell to carve XD). The story itself is pretty self explanatory, but I'll still leave the finer details up to interpretation C: And yaaaay shiny lights everywhere!

8D!!! I love different interpretations of this! I had intended it to be 'the tiger lost its mate' and assumed everyone would see it that way, but my mom saw it as loss of sibling and a friend saw loss of parent, so I will leave it up to the viewer from now on ^^
Prints tend to turn out that way, and I have a weakness for it~ Now if only I could get a giant press into my room so I could make more ... >w>

It's interesting, I had carved the patterns in the stripes as a story of 'this tiger lost its mate' but my mom got all choked up about 'the tiger losing its sibling' and I realized how even something I thought could only be seen one way could be interpreted differently. C: Out of curiosity, which way did you see it? Or perhaps you interpreted it differently than both of us XD
