Goodness, I forgot his ears. How silly of me. Well, I'll add them tomorrow. XDEDIT: Added the ears. ^_^

I was drifting in my interest of the new MLP:FIM from hard core fan to casual browser. Don't get me wrong, I'll always be an MLP fan, I loved the originals when they were on, and I do like the new show, but season two was a little, I don't know, it didn't catch me the way season one did.
Then I saw Secret Of My Excess. It's one of those eps that grabs me and won't let go. Every one of my favorite shows has at least one per season, and this was MLP:FIM season two grabber.
Expect much fan art.

This is not a Vector. Vector programs and I have a shaky relationship at best. This was done in the GIMP. All in all, because I haven't done real art in AGES, it probably took me six or more hours to do. I learned about some new functions, however, and that makes the time spent worth it!
I know I could have done better on that dirt, however. Stupid dirt. >_>

Well...this is, something. First of all, what is it. Is this Barney crying putting his hand/lifting his hand in/from a hole? I just don't get it. Obviously, I know this is Spike from "My Little Pony", that childish cartoon for which i can't stand anymore. If anything, you could have atleast got the goddamn colors right. And for the grass around it, learn to use perspective. seriously. And when you said "this is not a vector", well yeah obviously i know this isn't one but i'm curious on how you made those clouds and spike in GIMP. I use photoshop for vectors, but i should give you some credit on the lines and crispness on spike and the clouds. Overall, i'd say 45/100. "A" for effort, but hey you're getting there. Don't give up, and most certainly don't let somewhat harsh critiques bring you down. AND MOST CERTAINLY, don't ask for a critique on things like this because you could only ask for negative reviews. You would have to see the episode to "Get it", else this would be badly out of context.
The vector art isn't all that easy in the GIMP. There is a bevel tool, and a select tool, and... it's hard to just explain. >_<' I'll make a tutorial on it, to show how it's done the way I did it.
As to the colors of this pic... I mostly blame my monitor for that. (Note to self, post warnings of color crappyness next time) But I'll take stills a color sample them next time.
And not to worry about the harshness of the review. I filtered through your apparent hatred of MLP:FIM, and got to the meat of what you were saying. I do need to work on perspective, and as I acknowledged before, color is a problem.
Thank you for your honesty. I hope you do come back and check up on me. I will have much MLP art, but I will also have my own characters as well. I hope you'll give me honest reviews again when I ask for them. ^_^

I think I'm glad they never really gave a solid explanation of why Spike started crying at the sight of his giant footprint. I guess it was because he was realizing what he had become for a moment and was ashamed by it. I read it differently for some reason.

I also wanted to say that "Secret of My Excess" blew me away, too. It was the only episode that made me feel like I wanted to shed tears. Spike is my favorite of the series (Rarity and Pinkie Pie are tied for close 2nd), and as of now during the 2nd season, I enjoyed the character development in him (still waiting for an episode where he can be heard singing; that would be cool). He's definitely fun to watch in the show, and he's not as appreciated as the rest of the main cast, especially Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. I also believe he's been one of the most helpful characters in the series.

I have loved Spike since the 80's. He's an amazing little character, and I wish they would do more with him, but this IS a pony show.
Also back then 70's he hung out with the "Bush Woolies". Id love to see some of them in the new MLP.
'Secret' proves even "silly girl shows" can have depth.
I'm sorely tempted to make an AMV just for him. I'm just not sure what song would fit.

Even if it is a show about the pony characters, Spike is definitely important in the show, not just because I think he's a great character. I don't think I'd enjoy the show as much without him as I do now. All I can say is we'll have to wait and see what surprises the crew throws at fans.
Totally. That episode had a lot of depth.
You should make an AMV. Good luck finding a song. They're out there; I just can't help you with that.
