Description
I don't like talking about politics. I wonder if that is because of cowardice to express an opinion or because of the belief that the real circumstances will never be obvious anyway. Maybe it's both. And mabye - I admit, it's sluggishness, too.Related content

I do generally agree with this point. I am politically interested personally but... I don't like getting into pointless arguments with people. So generally I keep politics out of my acquaintances.
I only get serious about subjects where I have been touched by them personally (ie. student debt, employers taking advantage of the employer's market, etc). The 'world issues' are very important. However, you get nowhere debating them with people who have generally made up their minds already!

News is full bullshit anyways so don't bother to take it in before does any damage. so dont trust CNN, ABC, FOX, etc, oh yeah especially don't wander around Yahoo's comments section of articles involving Islam, that where the real bull begins. The only thing that gotten more clever and changed it's medium, that's how much it truly changed.Β

Little late for a comment but, there is always something that can be done, never be afraid to talk about a problem. Β If they're never addressed by the people who know about them then nothing will ever change. Β In my country last year there were 12,000 people killed in gun violence, around 30 a day killed mainly by compact little weapons that can fit unseen in virtually any piece of loose clothing. Β It's hard to speak out when it comes to things, but eventually it gets too much. Β You'd probably not agree to 80% of what I believe in but I think we can all agree it's better to talk out an issue then sit and let it boil.

Sure, it is. Silence can become a crime too..
However, entering political discussions with no knowledge is risky and it's done by too many people. It always ends up with big emotional conflict. But I guess looking for knowledge by asking is a first step. Maybe some kind of a Socratic apporach..

The study of a subject is key, but it is better to have knowledge and be able to get into said discussions than avoid them entirely. Β I spent the last decade doing nothing but looking into things. Β And I can tell you it's easier than one would think to learn and debate. Β Never be afraid to ask what to do and take that step. Β I've seen people feel legitimate fears, sorrows, and anger that they never speak out on because they don't know what they should say. Β But if you face one that has no knowledge but you are armed with it, then you have nothing to fear.

I didn't put it because I think that it's the same big misery like the others. It's more the drama that is made about it here in Europe. You sometimes get the feeling, that it's the biggest revolution ever, but as far as I know (via my turkish friends) it's not really comparable to others. And more over, I get the feeling, that Europe likes the idea of "Turkey liberating itself from Islam" and I wonder, whether Turkey's accession to the EU is part of the story, too... so in fact it's the media coverage which I dont like about it all and the fact, that there's so much going on "backstage"...

Politics will always CORRUPT everything..it will twist all the beauties of the RELIGION. There's no escape from it, until we've found someone that can accomodate all of us regardless of religion.
I have experience this as an Indonesian, and because of some Muslim Political Parties....most of the Muslims have felt betrayed by their action.

As a Muslim do you feel somewhat yanked into politics due to all the negative/false portrayals of your culture in the media?
π: 0 β©: 1
tuffix In reply to BekaDavisStudios [2013-08-17 07:58:27 +0000 UTC]
It's hard to say.. I guess negative portrayals are not the main point, although it plays a role especially in the case of turkey for example. I have a lot of Turkish friends and since my faith is part of the debate, I care.
As a (half) Tunisian I care for the Arab people and it makes me nervous to see the chaos in the whole Arab area. And Burma is a special case, since there's a big conflict between Muslims (Rohingya) and Buddhist monks and no one seems to care..
And the biggest problem is, that you don't know which media is reliabel, whether it is Western media or Arab news or facebook or whatever.

i do like the arrested pit of despair you've managed to illustrate here it perfectly illustrates how sometimes you just want to be left alone and not be dragged into another meaningless bout with those who only seem to want to shove the problems and issues of the world right under your nose and MAKE you say something about it.Β

They don't say politics is rotten for no reason. In those years from 2002 - 2013 I've seen so many acts people played in the politics (referring to Turkey). I mean how do you imagine to talk with people who support a party who is anti-islamic, but says to it's members "Greet with SelamΓΌn AleykΓΌm, go do prayers etc. to get more votes". You know, appear "muslim" to get the votes of muslims, but follow a politic agenda that works against the wishes of those said people.Β
What is there to discuss really? In an interview, the an Ihvan representative(or maybe he was even the president) said in an interview "it was a mistake to trust the americans, in our trust in them we elected Sisi as the leader of the military and now we're in this situation". Sorry, no offense to americans, but the american governement hasn't been known to be supportive of stability among muslims. No seriously, just look how the USA and EU reacted towards what is happenin' in Egypt. No where, no where has ever something good come from military invention! And always the putchists use the same excuses.Β
You know what, Turkey went through three open coups and more than that were tried in secret, and always it was worse after than it was before. Turkey began to rise economically, politically etc. AFTER it started to diminish the militarys power. Did those people who putched in Turkey disappear entirely? No, they still try it through politics and organizing mass protests.
No seriously, have you seen the media coverage of Gezi parki? CNN etc. did eight hours non-stop coverage of the events at Gezi parki and they tried to use the massess to get rid of the governement. They reported non-stop about those at max. 100'000 at Gezi, but how were the 1.5 Million supporters of the governement covered? With a small note, and oh yes, first they made photos of those 1.5 Millions who supported the governement and said it were those against the governement.Β
I don't belive in overthrowing a governement ever works truthfully, especially in this age it's just a facade. People need to change themselves first if they want their head to change aswell.
There is only one way out of this misery. But I guess every muslim knows what that is. Our unity fell in 1922 with that one flag of the muslims.
