Description This was inspired by a library here, where you can find a prayer-rug in a corner behind the stairs.
Especially in exam time, when a lot of students spend their whole day there, it is a great idea for those, who don't want to miss their daily prayer. Nobody is being disturbed and for the muslim himself it is a peaceful break.

I'm trying to improve drawing guys and backgrounds...

__

Unfortunately last time they put an EMPTY closet exactly in front of this place, so we cannot pray there anymore..

these prayer-rug for girls students which can be seen near the stairs of our department near the elevator! even though there is a room for it in the food count upstairs! but we can't say to them not to pray were they want !

It's funny sometimes when I don't like to wait in until the elevator I want to go from the stairs but I can't because they were there praying! XD

There are different opinions and scholars.
You know, in Mathhab Maliki (you know it?) pictures aren't haram, but sculptures (anything that is actually "complete" and just in need of a soul).
I neither draw to create a God (istaghfirullah) nor to get the feeling of being one (istaghfirullah). I see no harm, wallahu a3lam (God knows best).

In such a case you have to follow your conscience.
I'm not a sheikh neither, so I pray to God, that I don't lead you to something haram, inshaallah.

This bring me memories. When I was 11 years old, I used to take refuge on the school library to pray in peace. Unfortunantly, with the 9/11, people in Portugal became paranoid, and I had to stop praying in school, as people deemed me something I am not.

We had a row of bookshelves that nobody used....so me and an other friend went there to pray. We ended up by having to use the broom closet after a bit.

Talk about intolerance, hum?

Mashaallah, I'm not sure, if I thought about praying at school when I was 11 years old.
Are there actually many Muslims in Portugal?

I didn't knew that I could make up for lost prayer back in the days.

Not really. It mostly depends on the area where you are. Where I lived, you had two muslims in a school with 800 children.

I wish my library was like that. In my current school, there is only the meeting room when it is not in use. Really sucks when you have lessons at prayer times and any free periods of the day the meeting room is in use. Insha'allah when I get to university that there will be spaces like this or the lecture will be spacey enough for prayer at the back.

What a great idea! And it makes sense, too XD I'm not muslim, but I already use the library in my school as a place to collect myself and take a break from the day, so I can definitely see how this could be the perfect spot to pray among all the rush of people one is a part of every day. Wonderful art, too~

luzeon In reply to tuffix [2011-01-19 03:22:24 +0000 UTC]

Umm...actually,it have, in my faculty have a mushola (smaller masjid). But,you know, muslim is majority here, so one Mushola isn't enough. For this reason, a little space behind the stairs was built for praying. And I often use that place, very comfortable, and so silence...

cool ^^ So you have prayer rugs there? We aren't allowed to let them there ("They can catch fire" -.- )
Last week they put an EMPTY closet exactly in front of this place, so we cannot pray there anymore..

luzeon In reply to tuffix [2011-01-20 03:24:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, not just one, but many. Its wide enough, so we can sholah jamaah here, but just for two lines. At least, we can take a pray together, right? Hehe...
---
Oh my...I'm sorry to hear that...
It must be sad.

So, where you did it if it cannot used again? Is there any Masjid/Mushola? Sorry, I just want to know... because, I thought that it must be hard live in the midst of non-muslim.

tuffix In reply to luzeon [2011-01-20 11:08:06 +0000 UTC]

That's nice, alhamdulillah..
The masjids are too far, to go there every two hours, so we found new corners within the library.
Indeed, there are "prayer rooms" in one college, but they're too far as well.
One Syrian employee in this library said, he will manage this problem, inshaallah.. we will see.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Janina-Tube In reply to tuffix [2010-10-12 20:42:29 +0000 UTC]

Oh nein!

Naja, wir könnten ja Extremisten werden. Ich meine, wir haben doch sonst keinen anderen Ort und keine andere Zeit, unsere Bombemanschläge zu planen, als in der Mittagspause in der Schule -.-;
Naja, wenigestens erlauben sie es - noch. Alhamdulillah.
Und in der Bibliothek haben wir jetzt einen Verbündeten unter den Wachleuten, der das für uns regelt. ^^
