Description
Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, Canberra, Australia. My friend and I watched as the bird stood with his one foot on the post, one on the tap, trying to work it and turn it on for quite a while -- there was a fountain of water that had been cycling through and through nearby (Much of Australia is in a massive extended drought), but that water was NOT nice and the bird clearly understood (without a single hint of doubt as we watched) that there was fresher water through the tap -- and attracted the attention of other thirsty birds in the process.
Ultimately my friend did have to turn it on for them for they weren't quite strong enough and it was turned tight, but that doesn't lessen how intelligent those birds are.

I have a cockatoo (not this kind) and he is very smart. I have to masterlock his cage so he doesn't get out.

This is a gorgeous photo!
Cockatoos really are smart too, it doesn't take them long at all to figure out where the good food and water is.

The critters and birdies can really surprise us can they? I think this breed of parrot is ranked among the smartest bird in the world or something.
