Description
This deviation will was made in mind with putting together shows that fit well with the themes of Halloween, but it’s better to upload it late than never I suppose.

First is Making Fiends, which aired on the 4th of October in 2008. This now thirteen year old, short-run series focused on two girls of polar opposite personality. Charlotte, the blue girl with a bow, is cheerfully friendly and oblivious to the dystopian misery that has enveloped Clamburg. Vendetta, the green girl with pigtails, by contrast is vengefully mean, being the cause of running the town into disarray through her creation of nightmarish “fiends”. The former wants nothing more than to be friends, while the latter spends her days attempting to bring about her demise to no avail. Most discussion about the show nowadays sadly focuses mainly on it being one of the most prime examples of network executives mistreating properties. I for one really enjoy and appreciate this show for its balance of dark comedy and wholesomeness through its undertones and aesthetic, and do wish it had gone on longer to really reach its full potential.

Airing on the 14th in 2019 is The Casagrandes celebrating its 2nd anniversary. I often find it a little strange that The Loud House would get a spinoff just over three years after its premiere, but the show overall is more of the same quality as its predecessor while still having enough aspects to set itself apart. I particularly find the title cards to be a lot more visually appealing and respect the focus and attention it brings to hispanic culture. Día de Los Muertos (or “Day of the Dead”) for example is a holiday lasting from October 31st, commonly referred to in the west as Hallow’s Eve, to November 2nd, the date in which I’m actually writing this, in where respects are payed to deceased friends and family, and is touched upon in the episode “Croaked”. As such I tied it back it to this drawing’s spooky theming by having Ronnie Anne don “sugar skull” makeup as seen in some promotional material.

And then there is Aaahh! Real Monsters, premiering twenty-seven years ago on the 29th in 1994. This series took a look into the everyday lives of the monsters that live in our closet, what they do and why they’re the way they are. Unlike Monsters Inc. however, which came out just over half a decade later and took a more modern day spin on it, this series definitely leaned more into making its monsters more otherworldly while still also managing to make us empathise and relate to them. With how incredibly varied the designs were and how intriguing the magic system was, I’m surprised that this one isn’t really talked about all that much in comparison to other 90s Nicktoons.

It's also worth mentioning Star Trek: Prodigy also just recently came out on Paramount+ in the United States and was co-produced by Nick Animation alongside three other studios, but I was too far into drawing this to find a good way to include it. October was quite a busy month, but thankfully there’s only one more to go with November.
