Description Ok. So here is a mask I have been working myself over for about two months. Its not yet finished but I wanted to post this up before I finish it because it will look significantly different. This is made of pure brass with copper rivets and copper accents. I made the little gears out of brass too and the gears on the left eye are from an old broken pocket watch. all sixteen gears took in total about a little more than five hous to make (they are functional too ) This is for my newest project, what is it you say? Well I didnt know what steampunk was till a little while after but I had this idea to make a knight that resembles clockwork with mythical ancient time powers...
A timeless Knight
The runes are ancient celtic and actually say things ( Dont know if all of them are legable but I will be surprised if anyone translates it)
So I dont really know if it qualifies as Steampunk because this project doesnt run on steam but ancient powers and instead of a gun I will be haveing a huge medieval sword I like swords! I guess in a fantasy aspect this came to arise before the victorian age as time goes anyway...

This is awesome, its kindof like my work, fantasy but with steampunk elements rather than full steampunk. But yeah brilliant mask!

Thanks!
Yeah I like to make things mine and that's the way it should be for everyone, make it your own. I don't want a category for something that should be limitless, steampunk should be whatever people make it to be, not set by one person.

so awesome! May I ask how you work with the metal? I have been interested in making some small pieces of armor for myself, but not sure where to start with metal working :/

What do you have in mind? I will be happy to help you out. When I work with metal, depending on the project, what I do is different but I do everything I need to do to make it nice. I would suggest starting with thinner metal for your first time, and cutting metal by hand hurts.

yes, i would love to know specifically how to cut and to bend metal. I'm not doing anything too fancy. Just needs to be in a shape. And for the metal type, they sell thin sheets of aluminum down at the Lowes here. heh. Also, thanks for taking the time to answer me

Well, for thin sheets of aluminum I have used a strong pair of scissors or you can try tin snips/shears, unless you have machines that cut. For bending I try to find the surface I need. If I need something rounded over I use a pipe or something round and hammer over it, a football dolly for spherical shapes or pipe cap tops. I use a rubber mallet so I dont have hammer marks but I use a metal hammer, mainly ball hammer for certain jobs. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more.

oh wow, thanks! I thought of one other thing. Metal plating. Not sure I even have a clue how to do that.
I'll be sure to buy myself a rubber hammer now though!
As for cutting, I might need to go and get something strong to cut it... But! Aquiring all these things will come in handy for later cosplays as well!
Again, I thank you very much for this info!

A little info on my cosplay, I am going as a Steampunk version of Aqua, from Kingdom hearts. [link]

Poor mans metal plating is adding layers and layers of metalic spray paint. :/
Your welcome and dont worry about it. Good luck on your costume!
I'll be around if you need help.
