Effin' amazing. You've just taken two things I absolutely love (armor and steampunk) and combined them into something I can truly gawk at. XD

Wow, thanks!
Someone who likes both? Your my new best friend!
I too love armor and steampunk and wanted to be one of the first to combine them, and be functional! Real stuff, leather and metal and other cool things. I, unlike others, can take a beating...and have at times >.>

I have more of an eye for armor than steampunk, but I can definitely appreciate all the intricacies that makes the genre so fascinating (and I think gears and clocks and goggles and hats are just so tight). It's amazing that you could put all that together and make it look and feel like it has that aesthetic; Lord knows, I can barely draw that sort of thing myself, but I could never even begin to make it. XD So of course, you're very welcome.

Well I suck at drawing and can not do it to save my life so dont you worry about anything. Still thanks!
Gears and goggles are awesome but you wont see me glueing them on anything or adding them to everything. I guess making things is kinda like drawing or making a cake, its all about layering...

Everything must be done in moderation. And layering is definitely one of those things that can be easily overlooked, but is ultimately the thing that puts the whole concept together.

I know all about modration. If I put all the things I wanted onto one thing I wouldt be able to move, lol. Still, yes, starting with the basics and then adding the fine things and layers later works for me. I think it comes out fine.

Wow! I mean...wow!! The details on that armor are amazing! This whole thing looks great, and I love the hat. It took me a minute to realize that you had a cellphone in your hand.
But seriously! Great work on this!

Yeah the phone and the whole pic was a random shot but I thought it came out so well anyway. Yeah the details took me a while to make as well as the rest of it. Thanks though, its nice to have comments from people who apreciate it.

Great Job! As a fellow steampunk enthusiest, I am amazed at the level of detail and general badass-ness of your work. One question though. Did you use any specialized equipment, such as a welding torch, to make the mask and breastplate?

tungstenwolf In reply to awkwardzombie117 [2010-01-14 00:02:53 +0000 UTC]
Nope, mainly just a drill and a hammer.

Awesome picture!

I am thinking on just making a leather case with brass ornaments for it, because a metal case may short out the cell phone.
Thanks though.

You did such a fantastic job on it - I'm glad the photographer was able to capture the moment!!
I am preparing for my first steampunk event, Steamcon in Seattle at the end of October. I'm exhibiting some artwork there, and am just now starting to put some bits and pieces together for what I will wear. I found an astrolabe, and would love to work it mask of sorts. Anyway, thanks so much for the inspiration!

I hope your event goes well and you have a lot of fun!
I have always found astolabes interesting, I was going to carve one in leather and do stuff but I wasnt sure or make one into a shield. Also you dont want to put too much on a mask, believe me, all day and weighing you down can take a toll, but suffering for you art is really fun, and exhausting lol.

Foxfires In reply to tungstenwolf [2009-09-25 05:25:28 +0000 UTC]
LOL It's funny you mention that - because I was wondering how heavy that mask was (looks realllly heavy), and how you managed to wear it all day! lol
I may end up using the Astrolabe for some sort of belt thingamajigger decoration. Ya...that's a technical term. lol

tungstenwolf In reply to Foxfires [2009-09-25 20:13:01 +0000 UTC]
Its a few pounds (but hey, thats what ya get when you use real materials) and the three straps are functional and needed for support. I think I am going to make a half mask like a Vienen mask next for easier wear.
Thats cool as a belt add-on, I need some belt add-ons too, Actually I use that term quite often as well.

Thanks, that sounds better than steampunk ironman like a few peoiple were calling me at the con I was at. Though I am neither by the way, that goes for everyone, lol.

That looks nothing like Ironman! I just thought it was shaped like the helmet\mask the king of the Wraiths wore.

Thank you, I dont think I look like him either. Though not either the Wraiths as well. Its because of the no nose and black eye hollow thing isnt it?

Head-ZonkStudios In reply to tungstenwolf [2009-09-14 03:57:45 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, and the shape reminds me of it too, although the Wraith helmet have anything around the mouth area.

No, not so much that. Just weird. You know, ah... for lack of a better term, cult-ish. Sort dark and ungodly. And sometimes explicit. And the people who create it can be just as bad.
NOT you though! No, your stuff is great.

I need to finally make some leggings. Also I need to add some stuff on my hat and make a nice right and a similar left gauntlet to match the suit. Also I am going to make some cool shoulder pieces that are really crazy, and lastly make some sword straps to carry swords.
