Description
Most people here have heard about the recent events surrounding some of our TAC-COMPS, particularly unit 728. In the interest of everyone's safety I would like to explain what is going on as well as some new safety procedures.Right now, Unit 728 is the only TAC-COMP without an active cognitive control system. The EMP from the Childeater bomb as well as the various tumors that resulted from the radiation both destroyed his original cognitive control system and left his brain in such a off-spec state that we're no longer sure how to reinstall the controls without causing further damage. Furthermore, he has fulfilled his end of the service contract, making it illegal to install any control device without his consent. Unfortunately, he has not consented.
Unit 728 has thankfully opted to continue working with INFOPS in a consultant capacity. For our part, we will provide him with any maintenance and services he requires.
Currently we are keeping him in his original UMH-3A chassis. We are in a bit of a bind here because none of the other TAC-COMPS have met the requirements and we are effectively defenseless against other hives. We're hoping he can train the other TAC-COMPS into something resembling effectiveness, but until then he's all we have. Furthermore, he has exhibited dismay at the thought of being reinstalled into a forklift.
Unlike other TAC-COMPS unit 728 has displayed symptoms of what appears to be Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder. I have been working with him in controlling this, however the nightmares are a continuing problem. He is fully cooperative and otherwise fine while awake.
As a result, we currently have an uncontrolled UMH-3A equipped with a TAC-COMP in Warehouse C with PTSD. If you are unfamiliar with UMH-3's they are 3.3 meter tall heavily armored demiorganic chassis that punch faster than the speed of sound. Furthermore, TAC-COMPs are generally capable of cracking even the most secured systems and are far more intelligent than a baseline human. As a matter of fact, while sleeping he is approximately as intelligent as a baseline human but is incapable of distinguishing between his dreams and reality. I'm sure you have all heard of the "cheesepumpkin" incident by now. It was funny at the time but the chance of a similar incident happening in the midst of a more violent delusional is too great.
Like all TAC-COMPS he requires at least one full week of sleep mode for each week of activity. Slightly more is preferable for him. All sleep requirements are fully detailed in document OSP Paragraph 2.1. However, due to his off-spec mental state we need to take far more precautions than normal during his sleep cycle.
We have installed physical switches between the TAC-COMP and the chassis, this effectively renders him paralyzed until the switch is turned on again. Their use is further detailed in a separate document that will be sent to his handlers only.
The important thing to remember is that we have an extremely capable occupant in Warehouse C with delusional tendencies while sleeping. For the safety of everyone here we have enacted the following new rules and policies:
-No devices capable of any form of information storage or communication are allowed in Warehouse C. This includes personal augs. We have installed scanners at all entrances but require your cooperation. We've hired several new unaugmented employees specifically to work in Warehouse C. Anyone caught breaking this rule will be dismissed.
-Two unaugmented employees will accompany Unit 728 and perform the paralytic procedure before sleep prepping him.
-Warehouse C is now equipped with a faraday cage, please report any visible damage to ADA or a representative.
I hope we can all work together to make sure our high safety and health standards are met.
Sincerely,
ADA
In case anybody thinks there are too many acronyms here, I dare you to read a military document. I dare you. I'm not even using half as many as a real document would have.
Anyways, Babyface! And a new character, Joel, who is utterly and completely unaugmented unless you count wearing shoes as transhumanism (which is a fair thing to do if you really think about how shoes augment a lot of human abilities).
This was largely a test of a new digital rendering style, which failed because I was trying for speed. I have to learn to sketch things out first.
Photoshop CS3, Wacom Tablet.
Would anyone like me to upload a document on the technology and social situation of Babyface's world? I've heard a few questions about it, is there anything in particular you'd want me to answer?

Maybe draw those chains a that hold the cuffs for his arms a little different, they look very weak to me.

I like the idea that the TAC-COMP is so human that it too gets paralyzed by fear and PTSD. I still don't know why it is locked in that massive UMH-3A though. I mean wouldn't it be a lot easier to confine and treat if it was in a smaller more managable unit?

I would be in love with this picture and character just for the art alone, but you managed to make me fall head over heels for your art by adding such an in-depth description. Your mind is an amazing and beautiful thing!

I am wondering about the teeth--what is their purpose? Surely, he does not require regular food?

More will come about Babyface! I swear!
His teeth are there specifically to look scary and to occasionally bite things with.

I will now confess, I have not read NEARLY as much as I should have. -Lazy- But I really feel for Babyface. He is one of the more unique characters I have seen in a while.

Just outside your artwork(which is amazing and makes me jealous every time I see it.) The concept you've illustrated and been illustrating is incredibly original and provocative. I would love for you to upload more this technology document, I really can't get enough of this world.

Everybody seems to basically have already said everything I wanted to say, but I just have to say again how much I love the way your mind works and the attention you pay to the details that make your wild stuff so incredibly believable, like the Faraday cage.
I want to know about cheesepumpkin too, even though I feel pretty guilty because I suspect that was on your LJ and I've kind of dropped out of touch with that.. <_<
Also; how does Babyface talk?

I haven't really done much with my LJ lately, I've decided not to buy a scanner until a few things get cleared up, so I don't have many sketches to post. Sorry about that! I do tweet about him sometimes though.
Mmmm cheesepumpkin...
Also, Babyface uses speakers to talk, since his mouth is both lipless and not connected to any lungs.

I am not exactly sure why you consider this a failed experiment, as to me it's basically flipping amazing and I have missed your work SO MUCH NSGNG so this is like my drug right now. On the big guy himself, on first glance it looks like he was detained for safety reasons, but the way the other guy looks at him (comfortable and kind of friendly) blew that outta the water. And when I read the description, the big guy's humanity kind of showed through beautifully. You've rendered his skin extremely well, and it gives everything that sense of mass and weight. The inking on the piece is really well done, and your inking skills were always something I loved when you would do traditional pieces. Aaah this is cool and I agree, I'd love stuff about this world! And hives! And why he's worried about forklifts!

So many things to say...
* The notion of being intelligent enough so that you are human-level intelligent even when in sleep... awesome!
* Your style... awesome!
* Are those eyes on his body?
* What was the "cheesepumpkin incident?"
* Is "ADA" an A.I. ?

*He can hold a conversation with a human perfectly well during his sleep, until he starts wandering off and no longer makes sense. Probably not good during a nightmare.
*Thank you
*Yep!
*The cheesepumpkin shall be explained one I finish my introduction to this world.
*Not quite, all shall be explained

Cheesepumpkin? But hey, Faraday cage, that's a neat detail I didn't know anything about before.
Really awesome! The drawing grabs you by the hair and shoves your face against the monitor while ordering you to observe all the detail

Cheesepumpkin! It is the one thing from my imaginary future that I wish I had more than anything else. All shall bow before the glory that is cheesepumpkin. I'll have more about it in the intro.
Haha, I'm actually a bit worried that I might be melding the real and the fantastic a bit too much. Some is real and some is made up, hopefully it isn't too frustrating
But yeah, faraday cages are pretty sweet!

Okay, I basically say almost the same thing whenever you post a piece. First I say that the art and design work is excellent. Then I compliment you on the written accompaniment and fascinating concepts and terminology contained therein. After that, I typically close with a statement requesting more information on this very interesting world and storyline. So, imagine this as a typical comment, and we'll be all set!
Hehe! I also approve of the new rendering style, and how you added another layer of suggested detail with the midtone. Also, speed is overrated.
I would adore a document detailing...well, anything about this world! Basically, I'd just like some context, so I have a general idea what kind of picture all these beautiful little puzzle pieces are coming together to create.

TURBO I REALLY LIKE THIS STYLE. I'm a fan of the white/midtone/grey method and you handled it very well since you texture well and used good value balance. This looks like a panel from a graphic novel.
Also yes I'd totally read an info doc on all the tech madness.
