Description
I almost feel bad for uploading so much Babyface.Almost.
He's really fun to draw, and I'm enjoying getting back to my comic-book/saturday morning cartoon roots. Outrageously weird stuff is fun too... but this guy punches tanks!
He's actually built for breaking into hives and stealing/destroying information; which are heavily defended amalgamated intelligences that consist of thousands of networked people, heavily augmented brains in jars, and conventional computers. They're pretty smart, but he's faster. His own brain is a three-hundred pound demiorganic construct located in the chassis chest. Also he punches tanks.
I'm trying to keep in mind that he's a military device. He's horribly overpowered and the military (INFOPS specifically, which is charge with information defense and warfare) likes it that way. He's incredibly expensive and requires lots of maintenance, even with the fact that he can slowly heal.
It was getting hard to keep track of everything, so I made this.
Tech/history document is still coming. Now I'm getting nervous because I worry that it won't be as good as people were hoping D:
Got a question? Go ahead and ask. I love to technobabble.

Yoiks! How big is this dude?
I used to be in the air force, so I can definitely get the crack about him being more spoiled than an F-22!

So the super thick 'double hand' arms are combat augmented, while the normal pair growing from his back and more 'everyday use'? Very cool, and love the idea of the augmented brain in the chest cavity...hey, so is his head hollow, or is there like an original brain still in there?

Welp, the dude received a redesign right before I put him in the comic, so there's only one pair of arms now, but yes that was the original intention to have a combat pair and a daily use pair. As for the head, it houses a radome

Pretty awesome dude. Babyface seems i have a bit of a chip on his shoulder. I suppose when you're imprisoned after virtually saving the independent consciousness of several thousand people(if im reading the childeater story right) you'd be a lil pissy to.

He's a little unhappy with his situation, that's for certain. The problem is that he's flat out uncontrollable (even by himself when he's sleeping) and makes a tactical nuke look survivable. It's a pretty bad situation. He goes along with his "imprisonment" but gets annoyed with it every once in a while.

I also want to know about his feet. That's honestly the first thing I wondered about, seeing as they're actually a very important piece of anatomy for anything physically very active.
I always feel so lame for not having anything intelligent to say in comments on your pictures, because mostly I just sit and stare and read and absorb with a face like this ° u ° and drool maybe a little.
btw I really love that the fangs are just for show, that's so amusing somehow and really quite clever and not an excuse for drawing awesome huge carnivorous dentures at all

An excuse to draw teeth? Why, I'd never do anything like that, never.
He tends to walk plantigrade, but is made for running digitigrade, so he switches between the two fairly easily. His toes are surprisingly flexible, he can relax their tendons to grab things with his feet or make them rigid for running. He also has a sixth toe, which is amputated and used as an attachment point for a raptorial claw (which can be unscrewed and removed).
Gyah, at least you say things, I usually just go "durr, I liek this!" and +fav artwork!

Hah, never worry that you've over-lauded Babyface Everything you post on him is yet more fascinating! I seem to have fallen into a rut (comfort zone!) of watching artists with Dragon Char with these horns and these colors and these powers (for an example of such artists, check...me...); there is not much sci-fi that appeals to me, but then there's you, and every time I see you've posted something, I can't click fast enough to see what it is, what else slipped out of your mind. You blend things so well, and in ways I've never even seen before, much less had other people try to describe. Short version, there can never be too much Babyface, and my brows hike up like the skirt of someone morally questionable at every chance to learn something new. Because that's what this, and much of what I've seen from you, is: new.
No one will ever start a tiff involving anyone's copyright of the color green on your page, ever.
Reading the other commentaries disappointed me in but a single way D: I was hoping you had insight on how to think like a character more intelligent than its author, haha. Wondered that for a while. Guessing appears to work though!
Questions!
Do natural genetic anomalies inspire you? Do you use what would typically be cripplingly not helpful, reinforce it, and find new ways to make it functional?
His feet! I love his feet! Explain them! oops not a question
What would be his initial exchange with, say, an Abrams?
I'm digging the seeming chaos in the placement of his additional eye-like sensors, while keeping them bilaterally symmetrical with one another. That blows my mind. They're similar to (the same as?) the ones where I'd expect traditional eyes - do they rotate, all of them? What can they monitor? How would you maintain a conversation, if you're one who insists on eye contact for sincerity?
His conversation with his person a few arts back! What does he think of the concept of it in general, given that he can get a lot more done interfacing with things and getting more useful results, faster?
Half my collection of cats has inspected and re-inspected my banana pudding ice cream over the course of this comment

Ahahahaha, I've seen the "you can't have a blue wolf character that's mine!" fights, those are hilarious. I think a lot of people tend to be too worried about making a "bad" character so they stick with what they know works. Who knows, I just wanted a giant wrinkly dude that punches tanks so I made one.
Figuring out how a super-intelligent being thinks is hard! I've got the advantage of time though, I can think about what he'd do in an hour whereas in-story he'd make the same decision in one second.
Answers!
Genetic anomalies are freaky but fascinating! I don't read too much about those (just too horrifying in some cases) but I try to stay up to date on biological research, especially with those poor freaky mutant mice . You'll see some of that with the other chassis, Babyface gets his name because he really does look handsome compared to them (don't google cyclopia btw
).
All the eyes can rotate, they're all the same as his "normal" eyes, and they can see into shade of infra-red and ultra-violet. He usually maintains eye contact with people, because unless he's using his head for something he's usually fine with doing things while not looking at it with his main eyes. He'll write or fix things while facing in the opposite direction. That might be even more disturbing than not making eye contact.
As for talking with people, he is sort of human (I'll get to more of that later) so he does like social contact. Speaking of kitties (yaykitties!) it's kind of nice to interact with them even though you're orders of magnitude smarter. He can get frustrated though, and usually just leaves when that happens.
kitties!

I asked the genetic thing because it's a huge influence for me and what I come up with - Arcoas is a mess of things that go/went wrong with rich genes <3
re: cyclopia, one of my LJ icons (that I most frequently use in posts regarding my insistence that I will never breed) is a Trisomy 13 baby - specifically with the cyclopia. Genetics and how they program life have always been a huge interest of mine. And also snakes.
Unnerving conversation is unnerving! Because throughout that explanation,I still picture him as he is represented here. I mean, he's not naked(?) but what's the dress protocol, I wonder
I am excited to learn of the social aspects! So much exclamation!

Augh cyclopia! You have a stronger stomache than I
He does usually wear pants (standard INFOPS fatigue pants, size XXXXXX-large) and sometimes a vest with holes for his extra hands. He doesn't really need it, but gets tired of telling people "Quit staring at my plug!"
He also has a uniform, with a silly little hat.

^_^ I don't think you need to worry about it not being as good as people might hope, It is always fun to listen to (well okay read) you talking about your characters. It will be great however it ends up.
How would his primary hands work when he is punching a tank? I never noticed before how he has the double hand thing for his primary arms. For human hands/arms I know that you have to have your hand held just right for punching so that the bones in your hand are alined right so that the force is dispersed harmlessly into the other bones in your arm. I realize how much stronger his bones are, but how does it work when he does punch something. It looks like in the drawing that his hands in the primary arms would end up getting messed up from the bones not lining up very well.
Also, the dark areas/holes in his primary arms near the elbow on the front and back views, are they more air vents? On the view of the hand, the wiggly thing coming out of the wrist, do those serve as something like a whisker to him, to allow more sensory input?
Yay for questions! :3

turbofanatic In reply to runningstreem [2010-07-25 03:26:36 +0000 UTC]
When he goes to punch something he actually interweaves his fingers (a bit like when you clasp two hands together) this lines up the bones and brings his implanted brass-knuckle thingys forwards.
Yeah, if he tried to punch fingers out that wouldn't turn out too well
The little wiggly things are manipulators, really just a way for him to interface with electronics.
P.S. Did you every get my reply to your journal? I just wanted to check and make sure it wasn't wandering somewhere in the internet wastelands.

Oh yay! I worry about things like that
I'll try to write more about his personality, he's a bit hard to figure out since he's crazy intelligent, and my own brain can only guess at how he thinks. For instance, he literally 'donates' portions of his brainpower to local universities that want to run complicated simulations ('cuz he gets bored and thinks it's a nice thing to do) and the average human wouldn't even notice him acting any differently.

Thanks! I'm going to keep on working on it!
The plugins on his chest and groin let him hook up to machines that replenish all his fluids/fuels, since he can't actually digest anything on his own. The one of the back is an attachment point for weaponry. All of them can be covered with extra skin.
