Description
This is Lanying's final design...or at least, as final as it's going to get at this point. I'll also take this time to put up a brief bio for her, since no one really knows anything about her yet. This backstory will be explained in A Great Escape, but it's not really a spoiler.Name: Lanying Xifeng
Age: 26
Species: Java green peahen
History: Long before Lanying was born, Lord Shen was banished from Gongmen City, and shortly after, his parents died. The absence of rulers in Gongmen created a power vacuum that drew many would-be elites, from both within the city and beyond it. Jie Xinfeng was one of the many contestants for power, bringing his wife Yue all the way from Java in order to present himself. He was only granted a position as political adviser to the Masters Council, which did not come with great power or wealth, but it satisfied him. He and his wife were both cunning and intelligent, and often able to get the best of their opponents in political situations.
Eventually, Jie and Yue hatched a chick, a little girl who they named Lanying. For several years she grew up normally; then, out of the blue, she began to suffer from panic attacks. These attacks had a broad range of severity -- some were horrible fits while others barely slowed her down. Either way, the unshakable ailment was thought to be anything but normal and was met with great alarm by her parents. They called in healers from all over China to take a look at her, but not one physician knew the cure for this "disease." Word of her attacks spread around the city, and Jie and Yue began to keep her locked away, wishing to protect both her and their social standing.
Despite her condition, Lanying displayed keen creative interests as she grew up, particularly in writing. When she was seventeen, her parents allowed her to take samples of her work to all of the different printers in the city, but she was rejected by every one of them, and her parents continued to force her to be a shut-in. By the time she was eighteen, they rarely allowed her to go out and hardly seemed to care about her frequent panic attacks. She was extremely frustrated and would occasionally sneak out into the city, but soon enough stopped this habit, not seeing any point in it.
By the time she reached age twenty-six, Jie and Yue were concerned that their daughter could never be self-supporting because of her condition. She was considered to be a cripple despite the fact that she was in fairly good physical shape and was just as keen as her parents. They were left with only two options for her future: either send her away to an asylum, or marry her off to someone who would be willing to support her...
And I can't say anymore or else I'd be spoiling A Great Escape.
Notes:
- Yes, I'm aware that she is much, much younger than Shen. There's actually a specific reason for this, but I can't say it without giving away a major plot point of the story.
- The technical term for her condition is panic disorder, but I'm not sure they knew that existed in ancient China
- While her parents speak with slight Javanese accents, she does not because she learned how to speak from a private tutor (in reality she would have a British accent like Shen, though that doesn't make sense in the context of the story)
- Her creation day is October 27

Java peacock is named after Java, but it doesn't mean only Java have it.
If a creature is named after a country,it's becauseΒ it was first scientifically discovered in that country.,usually byΒ western exploers or scientists.
In fact, Java peacocks exist in Yunnan(a province of China), India, Burma and many other areas of southeast Asia.

Beautiful, hun! My apologies for not commenting sooner, so I'm making up for that now.
Her design is just darling; I love the shading on her tail feathers. Like, really, it's my favorite part of the piece.
Interesting back story, and, heh, panic attacks. Well, they say you can't create a character without inserting yourself in there.

Sorry, one question. Are most of peahens don't have long trains as peacocks?

Peahens are female peafowl, and they don't have trains like peacocks (male peafowl).

Yeah, you might want to fix that Peahens still have pretty long tails, just not trains.

Oops, how about this one: [link]
And I thought that Shen's mother from the movie had the trains.

Well, it looks like the girl has a much shorter tail then the boys, so that's probably okay.
It was really hard to see in the movie, but I'm pretty sure she didn't. And in real life peahens don't have trains either.

Sorry for replying to a conversation with someone else, but I just felt the need to say that Shen's mother did have a train in the movie, but that was just because it was in puppet form so to make it look nicer. If that scene had been in that animation of the rest of the movie, or even how it was in the first movie, she most likely would not have had a train.

Actually, no. I literally just checked -- there's a scene where you see both her and her husband completely, right when they're banishing Shen. Only her husband has a train.

Oh really? Interesting...I could've sworn I saw her with a train too...oh well. Hey, do you find it interesting how almost EVERYONE who writes 'Post KFP2' fanfics about Shen's life, says that he was born "sickly, and weak" and that his parents neglected him for it? I don't know...I've seen a lot of fanfictions like that. Today my friend gave me the idea to write "Kung Fu Panda 2- The Musical!" lol, do you think I should do it?

Yeah, everyone says that he was sickly and weak and neglected by his parents because that was apparently an abandoned concept that the filmmakers came up with. Maybe tomorrow, there will be a deleted scene or something on the DVD.

OMG yeah! I'm so excited for the DVD! I invited a bunch of friends over to watch it this Saturday, and I asked my family if they could go out for the day, since when Shen first appears, things might get scary. I don't think they've ever witnessed one of my fangirl attacks!
