Description
when Beorn shows up on the Battlefield, claws out and ready for action, it's like the arrival of a sixth army. we see him here, just having turned back into a man, bearing the mortally wounded Thorin Oakenshield in his arms with Bolg lying beheaded at his feet. even as a man he's never that un-bearlike.Related content

Damn, it's a pity they changed his role so much in the final movie.. He was one of the central figures in the book, turning the tide of battle by slaying enemy commander and pulling Thorin out of there.. In the movie he was completely insignificant at those final moments. Not to mention your design is 100 timse better . He looks wild while still being quite natural. The one in the movie seemed sort of artificially weirdened to achieve this sense of wildness. Not best choice.

i liked the design choices they made for movie-beorn more than i expected to (though he is perhaps a little too freaky) but yeah he was pretty damn marginalized. you'd think with nine hours of 'hobbit' on their hands and a focus on amping up the action from the source material they'd make a little more room for the guy who turns into a bear

This image actually inspired a long comment I made in the A Tolkienist's Perspective blog. The subject of the post was the possible scenes in the Extended Edition of BotFA. I wrote down my own preferred rendition of Thorin, Fili and Kili's last stand. Here it is in full:
What would have been a really cool hero moment is seeing Fili and Kili defending Thorin (instead of what was shown in the movie). I really would have preferred seeing a slight reversal of Boromir’s Last stand from FOTR (also lets imagine that Beorn has already skydived into the battle at this point in the movie.): Thorin takes a spear or two(cause Dwerrows are friggin’ tough after all). Fili and Kili defend their uncle and attack the Orcs who are just coming in wave after wave. The trio are surrounded. The wounded Dwarf king gets up and joins in the fray. But the orcs are too many… Thorin is already struggling to stay on his feet… Azog smiles… Slow Motion… Orcs hacking and hewing… The Dwarf princes blocking… Fili takes blow. Then another. And another.
Kili and Thorin: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We lose sight of Fili. Kili goes berserk on the oncoming orcs but realizes that he still has to defend his uncle. He turns to go back. Thorin has just cut down a couple of orcs. He turns and sees Kili.
Thorin: KILI WATCH OUT!!!
Too late. Kili stops in his tracks as if he were hit from behind. He looks down and sees the head of a spear has pierced him all the way to the front of his chest. He looks up to meet Thorin’s eyes.
We hear a roar in the distance. The spear is removed and not gently. Kili falls to the ground. The orcs swarm in. Thorin screams in pure rage. He charges the orcs, bent on defending the bodies of his nephews from the horde of the Defiler. The Dwarf King does everything he could with his sword and ax. He takes numerous spears, front and back. But he will not fall. Not now. Not yet. All of a sudden there is Azog right in front of him. The other orcs stop their attack. An unbalanced duel commences. Alas, Thorin son of Thrain is to injured and weakened to continue. He falls to his knees. A hideous cacophony of Orcish lafter errupts. They cheer for Azog.
The laughter and cheering dies down, to Azog’s confusion. He looks down at the dwarf at his feet. Thorin is straightening his back. He slowly looks up. His expression is nothing short of utter and unfailing defiance. An expression of exasperated rage spreads on the Pale Orc’s features. A roar is heard, this time louder than the last. Some orcish screams are also heard. But this noises go unheeded by The Dwarf King and The Orc chieftain. We see the orcs behind Azog running in all directions, but to where or from what we could only guess. The bigger ones take up arms. So does Azog, preparing to deal the final and most fatal blow. He swings his arm downward. Thorin does not waver. Azog’s sword continues to swing. Then great black flash crushes him aside.
Thorin looks on in surprise. We see Azog pinned beneath a shackled claw. Thorin looks up and sees Beorn, in bear form. The bear roars at Azog.
Thorin: (Whispers) Beorn….
Just then the bear turns to look at him. There is understanding in both their eyes. Thorin nods, picks up his ax and tosses it to the bear. A hand on a shackled wrist catches it. Beorn nods to Thorin and readies the ax. He turns to look at the mauled Orc pinned beneath his foot. Azog turns to look at Thorin.
THORIN: Baruk Khazad!
The Orc turns to look at the Skin-changer above him in horror. With a vengeful look Beorn raises the ax. Both shout, though for different reasons. Beorn swings the ax, FORWARD!
We cut to Thorin. A sullenly satisfied look upon his face. He looks around and sees the bodies of his nephews. He sheds two tears and falls. But he is caught by Beorn who carries him away from the dwindling chaos. Thorin sees the orcs and Wargs fleeing. Chased down by the Three Armies of the Free Peoples and the Eagles. He eyes lock onto his cousin Dain, valiantly leading their people. Fade to black.
Fade into a blue sky beginning to darken. Bilbo blinks. He gets up to find himself still on the battlefield. Sigrid, Bain,Tilda, Gandalf and Tauriel, among many others are searching and calling out for any survivors.
(This is the scene I would have loved to see. But then again, most of this is how I pretty much picture the book version of The Last Stand of thorin Oakenshield and His Sister-Sons. But of course I had to mix it with elements in the movies. I had Thorin hand Beorn his Dwarven ax to prevent the scene from simply compying Aslan vs The White Whitch from the first Narnia movie. And I’m actually happy with the result. Baruk Khazad!)
Ps. I apologize for unintentionally ripping off Agent Coulson's death scene.)

I do think it funny that Thorin is the oldest dwarf yet he looks so young in the movies. And in the book, Beorn does have bushy eyebrows yet that is one of the things people hate most about him in the movies.

So sad! I like Beorn's tender look even though he doesn't know Thorin that well. (I have wondered if the 'hot dwarf' fangirls will riot at the end of the movie trilogy).

between the death of durincest and bagginshield i'd say there's a high likelihood (oh dwarves, what has Peej done to you?)
thanks! beorn always struck me as gruff, but with the capacity for compassion.

Best Beorn on DeviantArt! He's certainly very bear-ish. I've got a cousin named Bjorn (same name, different spelling) it's uncanny how he resembles the one in The Hobbit in his manner (and even grew a wild black beard once- looked like a mountain man, though undoubtedly not as robust as this one. xD Beorn is definitely one of the most interesting characters ever; glad you made this excellent tribute to him!

Thanks alot for such a nice compliment! (and sorry it took so long to respond) I wholeheartedly believe everyone should try the mountain man beard, atleast once (whether you're heavily bearded or not)
