I was actually curious about the chances of a opossum carrying rabies and was checking on that. Evidently they are very unlikely to carry that because their regular body temperature is too low for the virus to live in their system. o.O I really had figured they were one of the more likely creatures to be carrying it next to raccoons. Though I never approach a wild animal closely because you never know when they could be that random %1. Thank goodness for a zoom on cameras!

O_o Really? 'Cause holy cow, they're always telling us they're crazy rabid out here (of course...this IS California, and we're not really big on wildlife). That's crazy.

I think a lot of people think they have rabies because they will foam and spittle at the mouth when they get spooky, just part of what they do to defend against predators. They can also emit a pretty foul smell to add to the act. [link] Here in TX the big thing they always warn about for the rabies is bats, coons, skunks and foxes, especially if they are out roaming in the day time.
