i tried to give it a graphic design dimension somehow - doesn't make much sense but oh well..hence the name 'ellipse tool' -derived from photoshop.

It makes me think of rising bubbles. I like that, the idea of it is peaceful and gentle but there's something which puts a little contrdicting thought in my head, it might be the colours.

Thank you, you've made me want to get back to doing something and thinking about what it is.

i'm glad bout that eight

so you see this as peaceful and gentle? hmm.. it's probably not the thought i had in my head. perhaps it's this colour thing u mention. i tried to choose the colors very carefully. i think it's the drips rather than the colors which makes it abit unsettling or contradicting..

thankx!

"i tried to give it a graphic design dimension somehow - doesn't make much sense but oh"

i think you thought of the picture plane the way a graphic designer would've, but that is just me... i love this circle motif you have got going for you but i kind of dont like the way it is integrated here. as always, great color choices though.

thankx teat yeh, the cirlce was used in a different way in this piece. Probably i derived it from the bubbles which graffiti artists sometimes draw around graffiti pieces..

I think you succeeded in giving this a graphic design element - it does kind of look like a vector, seeing as the circles are perfect circles. Did you add the drips or are they just natural?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TurquoiseHexagonSun In reply to MdmJsn [2005-08-21 10:34:24 +0000 UTC]

some are natural, and some i added myself.. i love drips

Woa, looking at the picture from the exhib it really brings it to another dimension. I can't believe you didn't sell anything. It sucks when you have to bring stuff home and you don't know where to put it so it sort of jus lies around until you can think of someone to hand them over to. I don't know, today is an utter brain crap day, I'm sorry if I don't make any sense.

TurquoiseHexagonSun In reply to HellCatRampage [2005-08-21 09:03:28 +0000 UTC]

haha.. well i know it sucks! the thing is.. over here in Malta, stuff like my paintings are abit unusual. the top artists here are still stuck in 1940s-50s art. they're really stuck in time. infact one of my aims with this exhibition was to offer something different to the Maltese art scene coz i'm just about sick of seeing abstract nudes, harbour scenes, abstract landscapes and all that outdated crap.
well you see, it comes at a price coz you don't sell anything. people here only want to buy paintings with the afore mentioned styles. plus, i'm not an established artist. people want to buy paintings of famous aritsts. bah!

HellCatRampage In reply to TurquoiseHexagonSun [2005-08-21 10:43:45 +0000 UTC]

uuuuuh. tireing. what abt the international scene? Maybe malta just needs to get used to contemporary art... What a noble quest for aspiring/established maltese artists to take Can I ask you, did you go to any maltese art school and get what the horrific art world refers to as proper academic education?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TurquoiseHexagonSun In reply to HellCatRampage [2005-08-21 11:16:31 +0000 UTC]

yes, i've been to art school - to Malta's official School of Art. it's a load of crap. all you get to do is still-life drawing and if you're lucky maybe some sculpture. it's a total farce.
right now i'm following a course in graphic design at the college for Art and Design. Fortunately the course is a foreign one (BTEC London) and it's refreshingly un-orthodox compared to Maltese standards. Still, the students are maltese and i see alot of arsy art being put up by them. hell, even some of the teachers are sub-standard. for example, one of our graphic design teachers is not a graphic designer. he's a 3d designer. he's fascinated by big 3d explosions and all that. so he's a computer geek really, not a designer.
but anyway, i don't want to bore you with these little problems from our little island..

HellCatRampage In reply to TurquoiseHexagonSun [2005-08-21 13:45:15 +0000 UTC]

not boring! i asked didn't I? Art institutions in general are pretty much....bullshit I must say, even though I'm currently involved in such a place myself. Guh. It's funny how lecturers seem obsessed wih them knowing the right and wrong ways to approach art. I can feel the nervous insanity breakdown crawling up my toes sometimes.

Unorthodox is always good. Sounds like you hunger for going someplace else than malta? Too bad abt the teachers, sucky students at least does not affect your progress and development as much as the authority figure who is supposed to teach you does.

damn, i really like your reasoning! it's exactly how i think..
yes heh you've realised. i wana leave this place and go somewhere else, somewhere big, somewhere abit advanced. hopefully in a couple of years i'll be doing that. i'm thinking of going to study for a degree in graphic design in some place such as scotland or london. i'm looking very forward to that despite all the money that it involves..!

HellCatRampage In reply to TurquoiseHexagonSun [2005-08-22 03:03:29 +0000 UTC]

pure logic man
yay for scotland or london both good places. I'm in singapore right now but if things doesn't get any better I'll transfer to new zeeland next year. Or england maybe I don't know. Anyway, I think it's always good to get the experience of going to another country for studying and it's definately wort the money

"Its like a Kandinsky painting thats melting!" <-- Exactly what i thought when i saw it. This is a really cool painting. The composition balances nicely and you've got great use of colour here.

TurquoiseHexagonSun In reply to ObiJohnKenobi [2005-08-21 09:04:52 +0000 UTC]

thankx obi it took me quite a while to see that there actually was some balance in the painting. for a long time i kept on adding stuff to it which was only making it worse..
