Description Updated art for Gin's app, which you can view here->[link]

I decided to design a new look for Gin a while back, but just finally got around to doing a full pic of him in his new duds. He still has his old cloak of course and still wears it, but I wanted to design more interesting clothes for him to wear under it. Because Gin doesn't always wear the big cloak as it's more for outdoor use. XD I decided to make his clothes a little more fantasy-esque just for fun. (And he got actual pants now because he lives such a cold place. lol!) And Gin has picked up swordplay recently, so he's got his sword here as well. He's not terribly skilled at it yet, but he's learning. He doesn't usually carry a sword on an average day- though with the Inn's sometimes less than friendly inhabitants it is a valuable thing to have. His sword is actually a cleaver, rather than a typical straight blade. Anyways, this is mostly just another one of those "I was tired of drawing this character's outfit so I made a new one" moments. XD

P.S. Because a couple people have been curious now: The spike on the sword sheathe is not part of the blade. It's just there for decoration and so the sheathe can double as a weapon. The sword itself is shaped more like a butcher's knife or a hatchet. Like this-> [link] Just to clear up that confusion. So don't worry, I know how sheathes work. XD

So yeah, enjoy! ^^

Ah! Ugh what is designing. I can't make a decent outfit. This is amazing!

Do you know of any good reference for fantasy-style clothing or was this all pulled from your brain?

You might be one of my favorite artists now, I just found your stuff, it's incredible!

This is so weird to me! I'm so used to seeing him cute and almost childish and not so serious gonna kill ya now. he continues to tickle my fancy though, and i still love those weird boots of his. XD

my personal feelings aside, its a great outfit design! i actually really like the sword design, and idk why but the symmetry of his earrings is almost mesmerizing. idk, it grabs my attention. the cosplayer in me is saying "thats makeable" lol.

Lol, well he still has other clothes that are more chidish (the large cloak is still part of this outfit, it's just not pictures here). But Gin isn't technically a kid, and he never has been. He's really a very old fellow and his natural personality is very serious and fierce. The happy-go-lucky child personality that he has was something he fabricated after getting this body, partially for his own amusement, and partially so that people would be more accepting of him. Also because he finds being a child quite fascinating since he never really was a child himself. But his serious personality does show through at times, and sometimes he drops the child-act altogether if the situation calls for it. Though he doesn't do that too often.

I mean, Gin's not mean or anything, but he is a shishi so he's sort of scary and fearsome by nature. And if you get on a shishi's bad side they will cut you somethin' fierce. XD

Oh, haha, i know that, but its like, for so long i see him in his child-like act, and its so goddamned cute i want to squeeze him, that sometimes i forget his serious side. and yes, i am 120% sure it is damn scary, lol. I'm normally not a fan of cloaks, but I always love Gin and his cloak. :3

I want to rp with you so much, but I'm terrible at it and youd probably laugh me away.

Turtle-Arts In reply to waterdancer [2013-02-06 21:54:33 +0000 UTC]

Lol, well I dunno how you would rp with Gin as he's in a set enviro... wait. Duh, I can do whatever I want with my characters. XD

And I don't do too many rps as I'm picky about it. XD But if you're literate enough to do a good story style rp and tell me a good little tale along the way then I may be up for it. :> I tend to stop replying to rp posts from people as soon as their character bores me. Which sometimes happens quickly, and sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

waterdancer In reply to Turtle-Arts [2013-02-06 22:01:55 +0000 UTC]

well, not just to rp gin, but rp in general, just because you seem like a fantastic story teller.

I'm really very bad at it I think. Which is weird, cause I feel like I used to be better, but it may be more like I didn't realize how bad I was back then, lol. Anyways, one of my friends is truly a great story teller, and I joined an rp board with her so I'm trying to get back into it. Its all about dragons and gryphons and stuff. XD Anyways, I'm pretty sure I would bore you, as my characters are pretty bland, but I like to make character that are more "normal" and try to define them in little things like body language and habits.

lol, I used to be more into as a kid, but I wasn't super great. I'm mean I was never a terrible writer. I've always been in advanced English and done very well with essays and stuff like that, but when I go back and read older stories that I've written it's like, "Wow, how did I ever think that sounded good? XD" but I've gotten a lot better. Though that's probably because I've been through several creative writing/literature/narrative classes that have focused on writing style and ability. And I'm going into film with hopes of writing and directing at some point, so I should hope my story telling is somewhat decent. XD

I lost my taste for rp for a long time though, and only just recently got back into a it a bit. But like I said, it's a pretty rare thing for me to actually do.

I think thats pretty awesome. your sense of story telling definitely shows in your characters, and i think that's why im so attracted to them. I like to think im creative and unique with mine, but its really very hard to self judge. When it comes to forming the correct string of words to properly illustrate what im thinking... well, haha, im still developing a feel for it. its been near, oh, i dunno, 7 or 8 years since I last joined an rp. Wow, writing it out like that makes me realize just how long its been. o.o

I wouldnt want to force you to sit down and write in a scenario you wouldnt enjoy, but I'm intrigued at seeing your writing style, and then poking it to see what you did next. XD and then to see if i could keep up. o3o

well, idk if its your cup of tea, but this dragon/gryphon rp board I mentioned is pretty well written. You could always take a peak and see if it catches your interest?

Turtle-Arts In reply to waterdancer [2013-02-07 04:50:24 +0000 UTC]

Turtle-Arts In reply to waterdancer [2013-02-09 18:06:38 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough. I guess when it really comes down to it, I just like to write the stories myself. Like, I love joining the rp groups not because I like to rp, but because I love getting the prompts. XD Like, I enjoy getting the world or situation handed to me and then going off on my own and creating a story from it, that may or may not eventually break totally away from the original setting of the group.

I just looooove how you make them clothes! ;_____; You are so great! However do you come up with the idea for all your awesome ccostumes? Now I wanna say "take my chars and put them in whatever clothes you want!" .... except space suits... that would kinda ruin my mood. XDDD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Turtle-Arts In reply to Escaron [2013-02-03 18:04:07 +0000 UTC]

Aww, thanks. :> And actually I used to kind of suck at clothing design. And then I started focusing more on designing clothes that created a particular silhouette rather than trying focus on individual clothing pieces. And then doing interior detail and specific clothing designs just kind of comes along with that. XD It also doesn't hurt that for a lot of characters I design clothes loosely based on either the ones that I wear, or other fashion styles that I enjoy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Escaron In reply to Turtle-Arts [2013-02-03 19:46:17 +0000 UTC]

I see! Thats a great way to do it! Thanks for the tip! My problem when I come up with clothes is that its pretty much impossible to describe them in text (and I have to do that), so the more detailed the clothes are, the more hard I make it to wirte. And I dont think my readers will be happy when I start explaining "he wore a jacket with a little pointy cufs, lace in neck, a ribon on the side of the chest, two small... *3 pages later* that was all for his jacket, moving on to the pants!" XDD
Naah, Im kidding, but Im very torn there, I want my chars to have nice clothes, but then I wont be able to describe them. X___X

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Turtle-Arts In reply to Escaron [2013-02-03 22:10:54 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I don't usually give much description of clothes when writing because I know it bogs things down really easily. Usually for me it just something simple and vague. Like I may be picturing a super fancy jacket with all kind of designs and buttons and whatnot, but I'll probably just describe it as "an elaborate jacket." It might get one or two defining features listed if they're important to the character's personality or something in the story. But other than that it's best to stay away from overly describing clothes. XD Plus, it's nice to leave a fair bit of the character's appearance to the reader's imagination. Just because it's nice for people to be able to construct their own mental image of a character.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Escaron In reply to Turtle-Arts [2013-02-04 11:31:21 +0000 UTC]

Thats the way to do it. And you are absolutely right, its the best when you have room to imagen the char on your own (and then they release the movie and you wanna die. XDDD )
Although, dont you ever feel that you would like a little movie screen to be attached to your text? XD I do. Mostly if I have these fast pacing action scenes/creeping horror scenes that are completely gorgeous in my head, and I want people to see it just as it is and happen, instead of read it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Turtle-Arts In reply to Escaron [2013-02-04 16:23:46 +0000 UTC]

Well yeah I get the "internal movie screen" thing too. I think that comes with any kind of story though. XD And yeah, you want people to see it too, but you can't force them to see it your way because nobody is ever going to see it exactly how it was in your head (unless you draw a picture of it. XD) I guess the easiest way to force people to see your characters the way you do is to have an illustrated book, or your characters on the front cover. XD After all, my mental image of Harry Potter has always been and will forever be a lot more like how he looked on the cover of the first book than DanRad in the films. :I

"...nobody is ever going to see it exactly how it was in your head (unless you draw a picture of it. XD)" <---- I kinda doubt this... sure you can pull it of with your skills, but not me. It would look like those pictures of people that only are made of lines with a circle for head. XDDD
Ohohoho, yeah, I will force people to see it my way, if its so the last thing I do!!!
And you are right about HP. Have you seen the swedish covers? [link] I think they are the awesomest ones! Just love how they look, and its these small silver details in them. Love this illuistrator!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Turtle-Arts In reply to Escaron [2013-02-04 19:18:52 +0000 UTC]

Wuuuuuuuut? Those are so much cooler than the American covers. Jealous. >:I I actually kind of hate the cover art for the U.S. HP books, but like I said, my mental image of Harry was pretty well shaped by that first one. But yours are so much better. I kind of want the books in swedish now just for that awesome art.

And hey, why not do a sculpt of your characters instead? I've seen some really awesome illustrators who actually do sculptures of characters and photograph scenes instead of drawing them. And you do really nice little sculptures! ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Escaron In reply to Turtle-Arts [2013-02-04 19:33:14 +0000 UTC]

I knooooow!! Haha! <--- in the taunting way. XD Everyone I show the swedish covers want them. And you should see the backsides, they are beautiful to! Have you seen the german ones? I think those are the worst in the world. XDD The american covers are okay, but a little boring. Ive always dreamt of having Alvaro Tapia (the swedish illustrator) make the covers for my books. Not that it ever will happen since you need to be reeeeeaaaaally famous for that. Im glad though that they really made an effort when choosing who would make the HP covers. I can easily say its the most beutiful books I have in my book collection and I have a LOT of books. I have them on display. What i think is totally super boring is when they just take a super boring photograph and place for a cover, sure dont judge the book by its covers, but I still do get much more interested if I first see a awesome cover art.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!! You have seen my sculptures!!!? OMG!!! *going nuts* Seriously!!? Woooooow!!! Sorry for freaking out but ajhfdjkf!!! You are the best artist on the net, (yes seriously I love your style!!!) and you have seen my sculptures!! This made my day!!! Thank you!!!
Haha, yeah maybe I could try that. At least for the animals, humans has always been my achilles heel. XD And now Im gonna go freak out some more because youve seen my sculpts! Excuse meee!!!

Yes.... you should find the swedish ones for me. Look at the swirly thing. Doesn't it just make you want to find a set for me? XD

And oh my goodness those german ones are pretty bad. I would definitely say they're worse than the American ones. o_o And yeah that whole "don't judge a book by it's cover" thing is crap. Everyone judges books by their covers. That's why books have cover art. XD And who's going to pick up a book with an ugly, boring cover?

Lol, yes I've seen you're sculptures. Your spiders freak me out but the horses are darling. XD And I love that little suicune you made.

Haha, well if you would want them for real sometime I could look for them. We have this site where people sell stuff cheap and there you can often find them at a bargain price. I bought all 7 of mine, mint condidtion and first edition, for about 30$. Dont think that will happen again though.

Uhu, and still people choose those boring covers. A really great series is the Midnighters triology (if you have played Persona 3 they made the game from the books) but the cover art is awful! X___X I would be sad if my books got ugly covers.

Good thing you arent anywhere near me since I think I would fling myself at ya, hugging you to death. And that would have been a shame. XDDD
