Description Little history about pastel:

about PastelSome of my works can looks maybe too much simplified or not understood completely because I'm using a technique used by someone here too but not known among the most of people, with the word pastel they thinks I'm talking about the school pastels kids use and obviously is not the same thing so... let me put some history i have found about pastels with the help of sources like Wikipedia.
Soft pastel was invented by the minor french artist Jean Perréal (1455-1530) about the ends of XV century.
Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was one of the first in Italy who started use it in his studies and sketches. In his "Atlantic Code" sheet 247, he recognized the paternity of the technique to Perréal with the sentence "...a new technique for paint with different dry colors...".
However in order to get its popularity as artistic medium, pastel had to wait until the XVII century with the works of famous venetian painter Rosalba Carriera (1675-1757). The peak of its usage am

Wowie! Overall, this is fab!

Vision: So, by looking at this, I can see this child sitting at her (his?) desk alone. It's a peaceful peace, but it also strikes a place in someone's heart to go and comfort them.

Originality: This takes us back to the past, but it also shows us the present day. Even though we may seem to accept others for who they are and the things that they can't change about themselves, we still - maybe unintentionally - leave them behind.

Technique: The textures used in this weren't my favorite, but they may appeal to others.

Impact: This - as I said earlier - strikes a chord in my heart. It's a gorgeous piece, and it should make others go out and do something.

A fantastic job! :3

I don't know, it was that they took your eyes away from the child sitting down, which I felt was the main point of focus.

this is vary well painted, if you ask me you could use more definition on the chair the kid is sitting in. you have a cool idea but honestly i think you smudge paint to much, if you only used it to blend the the walls, and the desk it would look better, also i like how you use the color blue for your shadows its a cool idea but i think you kinda over used the color. over all you did a really good drawing but your technique was off, my advice to you is work on really making things pop out without using so much of the same colors.

Such a fitting choice of colours (dreamy & mystic blue) as well as subtle placing of patterns, which really convey an idea of peace and open space. Great work yet again, in managing to evoke so much!

I watched you exactly because you're using a rare medium, and doing so well IMO.

I had been going to ask why the title since the drawing looks more like a schoolroom, but your exposition explains that.
