Description
Cartoon/anime versions of Umi and Kuroi duking it out in some ancient coliseum-like arena existing outside of space and time.Mostly just an excuse to practice drawing simple backgrounds.

Aaa haven't done these in a while so I figured I could try ;w;
So, first off, I really like how smooth the coloring is, and for your first try (or one of your first tries, I don't see you do backgrounds often) it looks really good and coherent, I can tell what kind of place they are fighting in.
I also really love how the characters sort of pop out from the background thanks to their vibrantly colored hair, especially Umi, it really directs the attention to her and the situation at hand. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

However, I do feel that perhaps their poses are a bit too stiff to fully portray the intensity of the situation, so I recommend searching for fight pose references to use in the future (believe me, I've had to do that too when I try to draw an intense situation because otherwise I'd fail at it miserably e.deviantart.net/emoticons/x/x… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="93" title="XD"/>) so that next time you draw something like this, perhaps you could make the characters look more dynamic and less wooden, so to say.
Given this is a background practice as you stated in the artist description, I can think of one tip to consider for the future to try out; when it comes to trying to portray distance in the background, things tend to turn blue-ish the further away they are, and colors also tend to go lighter. Right now, everything is on equal contrast and thus ends up looking slightly flat.
All those things aside, I really love how you put effort and detail on this picture, and I definitely want to see you try out doing more backgrounds, because you definitely can do it nicely if you want to e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="19" height="19" alt="
" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="577" title="La la la la"/> So I'm definitely going to be curious on seeing more pieces like this.
Also, I have to say, I like your human/anime style, it's pretty unique in my eyes, so thumbs up for that e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

I hope this is helpful for you ^^
