Description
Here's a tip: by adding a few more rings along the edge of a dag of scales like this, they'll stack properly. You can use this to edge the bottom edge of scale sheets as well, if you treat it as a series of very short dags.

So incredibly helpful as is the link to the supplier - thought the shipping rate to the UK is a killer

The Queen Ring in the Netherlands sells them too, now. Shipping should be a bit friendlier from there.

How do you keep the top row from flipping up, or rolling on itself?

Something needs to take up the tension, as a sheet of scales will bunch up like you described when any sideways force is put on it. My first piece with scales was hung from a leather belt through holes punched along the edge. What I usually do now is to start with a chain to hang it from. For small scales, a chain of alternating 3/16" and 5/16" rings seems to do the trick.

You don't see many decent bottom shots on scale maille.

Thanks
It baffles me a bit how many people seem to like this specific picture though - it is the back view of the sheet, put up mostly to share the technique.

Ooh, nice mix of chain and scale. And I love the brass around the edge.

A few questions:
1) What metals are those?
2) How long did this take to make?
3) what patterns did you need to use for the chain mail? 1 in 3? blah blah blah
Thank you so very much

Stainless steel and brass scales, stainless steel rings. The pattern is a modified euro 4-1, where half of the pre-closed rings are replaced with scales, and the other half is left out (except at the edge, as shown). The scales are from [link] , which also has a basic tutorial up on how to use them.
