Wouldn't it be nice if all of our dreams were full of colours and sparkles and we cloud just fly anywhere we wanted and do whatever we wanted and be free and it was awesome?
I wish I had more dreams like this. Especially since I frequently have dreams of nuclear war...
...
ANYWAYS!...
The real story behind this picture is that... *deep breath* ...I GOT MORE SWORDS! *flailsmack* (That sexay black+gold katana and a ninjatsu ali sword~~~ )
Anyways, the ninjatsu sword is gorgeous... And it's all decorated with dragons and such. And actually engraved on the blade is a long chasing after some nice swirly clouds and I thought to myself 'Ahhh, those clouds look so much fun to draw...'
So I found an excuse and DREW THEM. HAH.
This also was originally going to be more of a morning scene...with warmer colours... But as I went along it just became more and more purple and pink and bluuuuuue and it looked nice so I went with it.
(A nice warm morning scene gives me an excuse to draw a nice warm morning scene. With a black long...yes~~~ Expect that in the coming future.
But I was also inspired as to how pretty the long are and frankly I couldn't remember the last time I drew one so...here ya' go.
I am also quite proud of this. *points* See that picture? *point-point* I drew it! *point* Me! Isn't it lovely?!
But ha-ha, okay, it's getting late and I have a headache... (I always have headaches, seriously.)
And since I usually have people post little word-ly-things in their comments if they bothered to read them... I'll not put one on here. I'm in a good mood.
Enjoy!
Art (c) me.
Time taken - about 2.5 hours
Rip this and I'll play nuke catch with you. >:3

You know, I'm not usually a fan of Eastern dragons (because a) dragons should have wings and b) dragons shouldn't have whiskers ), but this one looks very good.
All sparkly and swirly and stuff... XD
So, would I be wrong in assuming that most of the swords you have are decorative (and hence have awesome dragon-and-cloud inscriptions on them XD)? I mean, it seems awfully pointless to go through all that effort for a blade that's meant for fighting with. But maybe that's just my sword-ignorance showing through.

TwilightSaint In reply to Zeimyth [2010-01-08 15:50:06 +0000 UTC]
Ha-ha, thank you. I loff all dagrums.
No, actually, most of the swords are real. Many of them are sharpened. This one (the ninjatsu I was talking about) is actually the first/only one I have that has a decorative blade, but it's not sharpened.
No matter how decorative they may be, however, swords are still made for today what they were made for hundreds of years ago - to kill people.

Zeimyth In reply to TwilightSaint [2010-01-08 17:48:42 +0000 UTC]
Heh, well maybe I'm just picky that way. XD I mean, sure, a dragon's a dragon, but some are more... well, dragon-y than others. o.O Maybe I'm weird.
Hmm. When you say it's not sharpened, it makes it sound like you could go an get it sharpened if you wanted to. Of course, I highly doubt that an "un-sharpened" blade wouldn't dangerous if you know how to use it. XD How unusual is it to have a sword that isn't sharpened?
It's just that, somewhere along the line, people began to favor guns and knives more than swords for this purpose, I guess. Which I suppose suits sword-collectors just fine, because that's pretty much what they're for anymore, as far as I know...

Ah, yesh - you can get away with putting neon colours and frills and hats on some when others you'll get toasted for it.
Oh, yeah, I could sharpen all of them - I just don't have my own sharpener - and I want a really nice quality one. o.o But, yeah - all of them are still dangerous - the less-sharpened ones will just hurt a hell of a lot more going in. >8D
AHHH, now this is where it stops! You see, when I come of age, I will also start a massive arsenal of firearms - including automatics. *nodnodnod* *excited* Especially autos and exotics of the sort~~~

Zeimyth In reply to TwilightSaint [2010-01-09 08:09:11 +0000 UTC]
Er, yes, I suppose. Don't know about the hats, though. XD There's just something about the shape of dragon heads that doesn't quite work with hats.
And I don't know about being toasted for it. Fire-breathing dragons are so cliche.
Heh, that'd let you take care of all of your blades, if you had your own. Other than that, I'm not sure what you would want one for. It's not like your swords are going to lose their edge unless you're using them for stuff.
Or maybe you're a ninja assassin and I just don't know it.
Why are you so attracted to exotic forms of weaponry? Or is that one of those things that has no expressible explanation?
I'm one of those people who sees very little point in collecting things. XD Of course, I'd love to get some great dragon pictures at some point and frame them or something... But that's different. Of course.
...and my laptop has some 3200 pictures on it by now. But that's different too. o.O

Ha-ha, I dunno... Classy dragons can do with the hats! XD
I take good care of all my swords. I absolutely love cleaning them... It's weird...calming... I dunno. Yes! No! ...Maybe...
I...have no idea. Ever since I was a little kid I've been drawn to Medieval weapons and tanks and guns, so it's nothing new... It's the classic, lethal aestheticism of the swords to the sneaky, slicing tiny knives to destructive power of the tank and war-head to the high-speed, mechanical wonders of the planes to the sleek, deadly designs of firearms that I all love. Sounds kind of crazy when put that way... But really - I have no explanation for it.
Rather, I like to call it a 'weaponrer's affinity'. Though, technically, I shouldn't call them weapons. I should call them tools... I call them all arms, either way.
I used to collect pictures, too, on my laptop!... Sadly, however, my hd has only 32 gigs of space...total. *headdesk* I need a new machine...

XD Now I've got a mental picture of a female sky blue dragon in cell-shaded style with a wicker hat tied to her head with a bow. I have no idea where that came from.
I can understand that. There's surely something relaxing about caring for something in clean and perfect condition. Of course, I'm sure it's more than that for you when you clean your swords. I knew it! Now you're going to hunt me down, aren't you?
Hmm. I guess this is just me being myself and trying to make sense of things by looking for patterns in them. Is your affinity (better word ) based on the weapon's potential for power and destruction? And, if so, why are you interested in the mechanical and artificial rather than including the countless other facets of such powers of both man-made and natural origin? Which leads me to think about the mechanical aspect of things, and try to find some correlation between the more-natural operations of a blade versus the mechanical natures of projectile weapons... And I could keep going from there. Told you I think too much. Somehow it feels wrong to try and pick things apart in this way, though. It is what it is.
Besides, I'm no more likely to find anything in your case than I am in mine.
(All of which leads me to wonder why you draw dragons, if it's weaponry tools and machines you're more interested in. Here I go, looking for more connections... XD)
I like that term. Has a nice ring to it. Personally, I call them weapons, since it's an umbrella under which everything falls for the most part. Arms works, but it just rings oddly to me.
Aw... Well you can borrow some of mine! I have 320 GB and I don't even use half of it. Here, let me rip it in half for you...

Lol, that'd be kinda' funny!
Ah, yes... It's weird - the 'weaponrer's affinity'... You like...bond with your arms. XD I think I sound funny when I put it that way, but it's true!
YEP! I'll walk into your house with all my swords.
It's a drawn thing to the aesthetic beauty of the tool - while it is so deadly and so beautiful at the same time - like fire. You need to know how to use it...
I draw dragons for many reasons... One because I freaking love them. XD Second, they look beautiful~~~ You can do anything with them - they're fantasy - they're not bound by earth and such. (The whole 'bound' and 'stuck' thing sort of stemming from my similar rant on 'Flight over the Jordan'~~~ ) You can put into them anything you want - fear, hate, love, beauty, power, earth, the elements - anything at all! ^^
Also, to me, dragons are the ultimate organic forms of artwork. Seriously. Out of nature, they're just a part of the essence of everything - deity-like, in a sense, which is how/why so many cultures revere them. However, as a result of the ultimate organic form thing, I'm constantly striving to make my dragons as natural and believable as a result - not really on purpose - more like a subconscious mindset, so to speak.
(I would absolutely love to draw guns and fire and tanks and war and nukes and stuff but, unfortunately, to society, those things are considered dangerous. XP However, I do warrant my fair share of sketches and concept designs... For my project 'Element' - which takes place in the future - I have many 'blueprints' of guns, tanks, jets, and missile launchers. So much love~~~ )
Yeah, but, also unfortunately and also in society, saying weapons connotates things much more...destructive than swords and such, if you know what I mean...
Lol, thankies! *imagines more disc space*

Heh, I just think it sounds funny because my first interpretation of the word "arms" is the two appendages coming out of either shoulder. It seems weird to bond with a part of your body, but whatever floats your boat...
More seriously, though, I don't think it's that weird. I can't exactly relate to it very well (maybe I'd understand better if I had some armament of my own, but I don't, obviously XD), but it still makes sense to me in that unexplainable kind of way.
*gasp!* Oh noes! *hides behind the couch*
It's interesting, the appeal of objects that are beautiful despite their destructiveness. I can't say it's anything I feel a great deal of myself (except perhaps with dragons, but I don't usually see them as deadly ), but it seems fairly prevalent in literature and things like that, now that I think of it...
Fire is a good example. It's useful, it's mystical in some ways, and you'd better know what you're doing when you work with it. It's fun to get carried away and be a pyromaniac every now and again. XD
You know, I love when I can ask someone why they draw dragons and they can come up with a good response. I can't do that myself. XD I kinda make grasps at it but the words just aren't there...
It's interesting to me that, while I've always loved the visual side of dragons, I've never thought of their place in artwork - the fact that you're really free to draw whatever you want, when it comes to dragons. I guess that's one of the great advantages to creatures of fantasy. They're completely unrestrained except by your (and others'
imagination and expectations of them. Now that I think about it this way, I can see how that would be appealing in and of itself.
Again I see how little I truly think about dragons from an artistic perspective. I always strive to make my dragons look realistic and natural (and fail at the attempt; but hey, I can't get enough of the art from those who can!), but this is mostly because art is one of the only possible ways to embody a fantasy creature like a dragon. Outside of our imaginations, they're only as real as we can portray them. So, the realism in the art is important to someone like me. XD But apart from this primary artistic concern, I've never viewed dragons as significant from an artistic perspective.
And that might all have been mostly babbling because I didn't completely understand what you said here.
I'm sure you could get away with drawing the more dangerous stuff into some wartime drawings or something. A lot of society considers dragons as dangerous/evil and all that fun stuff, but this doesn't stop all the dragon artists. You shouldn't let society hold you back from drawing lotsa guns and arms and machines of destruction and all that neat stuff. Just flag it as mature for violence/gore if you're concerned about it. XD Don't let your love (or affection) for things society doesn't like keep you from drawing it if you want to.
Ooh, why not get the best of both worlds and draw a flying dragon loaded with weapons or something? That'd be interesting to see. XD
Yeah... but don't let our modern technology steal the thunder from good old-fashioned swords and knives and fun stuff like that. They're still dangerous, if not quite as good at the destruction part as, say, a tank. XD

TwilightSaint In reply to Zeimyth [2010-01-16 00:07:47 +0000 UTC]
Lol, I do think that in the back of my mind when I call them 'arms'.
It is - I even enjoy looking at pictures and watching videos of explosions and things -jaijf;akj-- OMG, DOGFIGHTS!!! *excited*
Yes - in fantasy and such, you can put whatever you think of/want into your artwork - I think that's why, in a way, fantasy is a superior art form - because it captures everything we cannot. Of course, I also say that realism is superior because it captures the essence of life in a piece of artwork. Now realistic fantasy is just freaking da bomb...
This is pretty much how I say dragons are the ultimate organic form of art - they encompass all of nature. The Chinese/Orient understood this very well. The Long consists of so many animals - teeth of the lion, head of the lizard, horns of the deer, body of the snake, feet of the eagle, scales of a fish, ears of the rabbit, and so forth. All of the main organic forms (land, aquatic, sky, carnivore, herbivore,) into one supreme animal. In the West, it's more geared toward the carnivore side of things - head of the lion, horns of the devil, feet of the eagle, wings of the bat, body of a lizard, and so forth. Even in America and Meso-America - body of a snake, wings of a bird, feathers of the macaw, gaze of the gods, and yada-yada. This can go for all dragon species - traditional or made up. Though I personally tend to go with nature and tradition, seeing as though my own dragon species are based off how the region in ancient times saw them and also how their very climate/surroundings can create such a being. When put together in nature terms, dragons aren't so far-fetched compared to today's animals, after all.
Yeah, I could, but I rather enjoy admiring it in my head for now.
Ah, yes, of course! I do love the ancient tools more than modern ones - save for planes and fighter jets and the assault rifle or two... :3 Despite this, and despite however beautiful or intricate my arms may be, I one should always keep an old rule in mind. Those arms are made and capable today what they were made for thousands of years ago - to kill people. They in themselves demand respect.
I guess when put that way, that's what I have - a sort of respect in awe for them. I love them, I use them, but I know how to use them - and I guess having a knowledge how to use them is having a respect for them - to keep yourself and others safe when even just showing them off. Of course, the knowledge and respect is a thing people nowadays have few and far between - that's cool in itself. (It's so much fun to go into arm-rants with people who also have them and use them and love them ohmygawd-- *froths* )
