Description
~~~Ah, how nice. Thomas and Idracil flying through the mountains--
*holds up 'AAAHHHHHHH~~~' audience sign*
If you think about it, (in chronological order...) this actually takes place a bit after this: [link] - at least in order in my epic. O.o
But yeah. There's this: [link]
Then there's Idracil again: [link]
And Thomas again: [link]
And Thomas again...: [link]
And he's in here somewhere (I SPY A THOMAS - if you can find him you get free virtual cookies) : [link]
And here he is with his best fwend: [link]
And here's his best fwend: [link]
And here's Thomas again BECAUSE HE NEEDS MORE LOVE LOOK AT HIM HE'S GONNA DIE OF SADNESS GIVE HIM SOME LOVE RIGHT NOW : [link]
(If you can tell me what time it is right now, you'll get a lifetime's supply of virtual cookies. 83 )
(Why the Hell did I just post all those pictures?)
Anyways, for a little backstory, this scene actually takes place after Thomas runs off from the castle and gets lost in the wilderness, only to be found by our neighborhood friendly dragon, Idracil.
Idracil takes Thomas, who is now weak, hungry, and thirsty, into the mountains to find water and food to hold him over until they can get back to the castle. (Thomas ran way far off - I urge you to take a second look at the last link I posted if you'd like to know a bit why.) Idracil finds a small lake where they can rest for a bit. Later, Idracil even takes Thomas to a cottage up in the mountains-- but I can't tell you for spoiler warnings. XD (Check out 'There's a Dragon Behind You' for full effect.)
Finally rested, Thomas flies Idracil back to the castle, and Idracil stays with him as a dragon companion.
I actually worked pretty hard on this picture. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, since I'm working with a new-ish style, (more, like...rediscovering an old style,
"Guide Me Home".
Maybe I'll find something that will guide me where I need to be, someday.
It's also kind of a symbolic theme in my epic, too.
So in a way, the dragon and the knight kind of complete each other.
(Wow. Now that's poetry.)
...
BUT YEAH.
I actually recorded the progress of this via a desktop recorder program, and if I get it up I might put it up on YouTube.
And if you actually took the time to read through this whole thing, type PANZER in your comment. (Doesn't need to be italicized.)
*No harsh critique plz*
ENJOY.
(I hope you guys enjoy looking at this as much as I enjoyed creating it. This is one of those moments in a person's life where you just have to shake your head and say 'I hope someone notices this!' )
Chars/Story/Art (c) me.
I love the anatomy of your dragons!! It's just so...natural looking, I guess is the best way to say it.
Do you have any tutorials that you've made? Or ones that you've found that you would recommend? ^^
Thanks! I like making my dragons look natural - very believable - like they could be real!
Right now the only tutorial 'dragon-wise' I have up is one on dragon feets: [link] But I have been getting some other tut requests, so maybe I'll make some more here. They're so time-consuming - my computer haaaaaates big files!
Thanks for the link! That tut should definitely help me out. If you do any more, that would be fantsatic!
I love the claws and the joints. They provide a good contrast to the otherwise sleek body of the dragon and shading around them is really nice. The bones of the wings have a good angularity to them. Your method of create a strong, stretched look to the wings is excellent. Idracil has a pretty "can-do" face on. It's such a happy picture.
The only thing that looks kind of off is the shading on the left valley. It reminds me of a sound wave, but it doesn't seem like something the light would be doing.
On the left valley...sound wave...I'm not sure I know what you mean.
I'm not sure what I was thinking then (I didn't sleep at all that day). What I meant to say was "pond ripples," like when you drop a rock in the water. It seemed like if the light was coming from the top right, there wouldn't be a reason for the shadow to be stripped, considering that the mountain is solid. But it's not that much of a big deal, since the focus is pretty much concentrated in the foreground.
Say, would you like me to draw a picture of Idracil for your birthday?
TwilightSaint In reply to msafs [2009-08-27 16:22:15 +0000 UTC]
Ah, okay. I think with the addition of fog it kind of wonked it out on me. XD Mountains are solid?! Since when?!
...THAT'D BE AWESOME!
msafs In reply to TwilightSaint [2009-08-29 03:39:31 +0000 UTC]
Oh, it's the fog. It always seems to be the fog's fault... (especially when there are murders). Nope, I don't think mountains are really solid. I kicked one through the other day. But maybe it was a mole-hill.
I'll try to think of an awesome pose to put him in!
Yeah. Crazy weather phenomena. (Especially in Silent Hill, too. O.o )
It's okay. I kicked a mountain and it flopped like Jello. *wow, that's strange*
I can't wait to see it!
msafs In reply to TwilightSaint [2009-08-31 20:59:58 +0000 UTC]
When there's a dragon zooming so quickly nearby, the mountains can't help but be turned into Jello! And the fog just faints.
I've uploaded it!
Let me know if you want me to print a copy and bring it to TKD (I'm never really satisfied with my color's printers, but I guess digital art usually looks better on a calibrated screen) or send you the original JPEG (it's twice the size of this one and the colors are slightly more vivid):
I saw it! It rocks!
I can print a copy at my house, but I think you can put up a download for it on the DA page - I didn't download it yet - but I will!
Thanks a lot!
guide me home, to germany, where the panzers doth roam and eateth of the other zoids, which have inferior specs and weaponry. next time can the magical password be 'ketchup'? biggest font size wins?
ps. for the longest time I thought thom was holding a camping hachet, and then I realised it was a sword right after I noticed how much he reminded me man in the yellow hat, sans hat and happiness and monkey. to me, anyways.
favourite part is idrazilla's head.
thinking about it that song fits really well here and i must say it was a really heart warming song at that (*me was a Spyro: DOTD player) as for the actualy picture i dont think there really is anything to crit about the coloring is really nice and i love the fact you havnt gone to extreme with your dragon char he is just a simple white dragon with no markings (i think), no compicated colors and no complicated add-ons (hair, frills etc) as for the human chracter i think he also fits really well as he just seems to shine when he is ontop of Idracil so it really is a nice piece (hurray for simplistic yet effective designs
)
TwilightSaint In reply to DraveDragonheart [2009-08-25 01:02:21 +0000 UTC]
That's where the title is inspired from - 'Guide Me Home' from Spyro! Yay!
Simple dragons are love. I don't like drawing characters that you need refs for just because you can't remember all their markings/fancy things and/or where they all go. XD (Not saying everyone does that, now, of course.) I think sometimes the simpler - the more believable - but that's just me.
Thank you! (His armour adds to his shine. )
yeah i loved that game so much lol made me sad on parts but still really nice
ahhh yes i think i made my first character a little over complicated with the markings on the wings so i may scratch that idea and juts have them on the body lol i dunno...dont worry about it some people will have over the top designs but there again that might have them stick out as well lol but the fact the more simple the more believeable i can actually believe that to be a true statement of course in the world of imagination theres nothing wrong with trying different things lol it would be design without it lol
yeah
not a problem
The audience sign told me to!
In the "Annaversery"(sp?) picture, Thomas is on the left and doesn't have a face mask thingey or helmet. Do I get a cookie?
I looked at all the pictures now (internet was too slow before). I'm getting interested in this epic. And I wish my neighborhood had a neighborhood dragon.
