So... We go from colossal dragons to miniature dragons. 83
Yeah, Orf is very tiny - and he very much has 'small man syndrome', poor little fellow.
*Pierce sees Orf curled around Kristof's shoulders and he walks up to him*
"Aw, what a cute little dragon!--"
\"HHIIISSSSSSSSSSSSA;DKJF;JA;KJDFIAJD;KFJ;AKJD;FKAJD;JF;J;AJ;K!!!~~~\"
*wets self*
*Kristof laughs*
It's also really funny, because the first commander my Crusaders are with (George...he's minor...no one knows about him...his ref won't come 'til way later...) has a huge dragon (Rael...also huge...not as huge as Shadow, though...just about double Idracil's size, though...still not as huge as Shadow...nothing is as huge as Shadow... :3 ... ) and Orf has to prove himself that he is so much more awesome and tough and bigger than Rael...even though he could most likely find nice refuge in Rael's nostril... (I almost said 'armpit', ftw?)
And gosh, Orf is so delicate! He's all nice and shiny and smooth - he has fishy scales that are all nice and shimmery. ^^

Ha-ha, thanks! I was debating whether to fold his wing or not on account of seeing his whole body... But it's pretty easy to tell what kind of draggie he is.

I'm having a lot of fun with them, and I'm finally finding time to finish them up and post them! 
He's still a Western dragon, so I like my dragons to stay on the traditional/realistic side. My Eastern dragons, too. (My Middle Eastern dragons are a pretty mix between Westies and Easties, lol. Their my Measties. 
Simple scale texture ahoy! I'll definitely be using the technique for a couple other of my Westies when I do their refs. ^^ And ha-ha, sorry!

I actually did his scales with a PS brush - under the Brush menu, go to Pen Pressure and there's a brush called 'Scale' - kind of looks like a crescent. Then, go to your Brush Options and adjust the Scatter and Spacing until you can run the brush along the object so it creates a scaly/meshy look. ^^ I'm a master at tweaking brushes to do fun things.
I did two layers - dark scales and light scales. Dark scales go on a layer under the highlights and over the base shadows, and light scales (these are usually smaller to make them look shiny) go over the highlights and everything.

I don't own PS but I do own GIMP which works for me. I also can understand how to possibly do this on GIMP so there is no need to get PS. The only other thing that would be missing is a tablet, which could make things easier, if I continue wanting to make digital art. Mousing is hard to do for me.

Ah, yeah. I always recommend picking up a tablet. I have a Wacom Bamboo Fun - comes with PS Elements and Corel Essentials - great starter pack. ^^
