I'd like to say this is my best picture to date. This one, as well as 'The Desert King,' 'Celestial Dreams,' and 'Devil of the Desert'... Oh, yeah... I guess I could add 'The Sultan's Gift,' too, 'cause that one's kinda' nice...
(So many apostrophes... ._. )
I didn't get a chance to submit this right away 'cause my computer started flashing 'LOW DISC SPACE! LOW DISC SPACE!' in my face and finally it didn't let me do squat and said I have '...a critically low level of memory available...23 Mb...' So I stopped and went through my hard-drive.
PSD files take up stupid space.
ANYWAYS, yeah, um...

I'm really excited for Arabic classes this summer.
WITH THAT SAID...
Yeah, I gave Idracil texture. Why, you ask? It's because I'm sick of people going 'He's smooth!' and 'I like my dragons with scales, personally...' and 'Your work lacks texture in general' and yada-yada-yada... (
) And I'm also tired of explaining, 'Well, Idracil is a smooth dragon to begin with...he's leathery and stuff...he doesn't have scales...' Etc.I also took heart from some suggestions and tried not to make him such a blatant white, so I added another layer of pink and another layer of blue to him so he kind of blends in with the atmosphere, wowowowoo... Aand, I decided it would be good for me to show the thin-ness and transluscency of my dragon wings - starting with Idracil... So I tried to show some of the pink backlighting going through the membrane. I usually make it murky dark or solid, lol...
And I'm also working with different kinds of clouds. I know how to make good clouds, but now I need to work on making different clouds now. I can't tell you how long I spend staring out the car windshield at all the puffy cotton candy floating overhead... All the while pondering what tool and what brush and what setting to use.
On the topic of the background, once again, I wish I could SHOW you the ENTIRE thing, but IDRACIL just HAD to open up and SHOW OFF his PRETTY, WHITE WINGS in FRONT of the background. Like he likes to do.
(He's done that in front of so many of my nice backgrounds, I swear...)So, um, wow... I did manage to ramble. How about that?
Also...
I SAW 'HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON!!!!!!!!!' 8D I LURVED IT SO MUCH! It was the cutest/coolest/funnest movie I've seen in a long time! (Yes, in that order.) And the soundtrack is awesome - I've been listening to it!
Have you guys seen it yet? How'd you like it?

id say you did a really great job with this piccie i really like the texture work you have done i think its giving a good scence of life to Idracil, not that im saying the previous versions where bad as i liked them as well

i don't what it is, but to me, this one really caught my eye. I could be the angle, the pose, the color choices...OR it could be the fact that this is extremely BODACIOUS! (Bill and ted reference there
I do also think that all the color choices, texture, background detail, blah, blah, artistic themes are awesome too! Anyone who can use a brush to do all that is great at what they do. And I so think that!
I must ask though, how DO you do that? Are there some tutorials that you know of that you could share! I finally got Adobe PS Elements 8, but I have no clue on what is what there or how to do some of the more interesting things on it. I have been using GIMP way to long. I really wish I could do things like that.
And finally, is it possible I could get this in wallpaper form please

Yus, the thumbnail makes it look so spifftastic.
It is a really aesthetically pleasing picture...the pose is powerful yet conveying a sense of peace, while the deep blues and purples are offset by the brighter pinks and reds. *shrugs*
I don't know how I do it man, I really don't. Six months ago I never saw myself doing lineless - period. I thought I would always needs lines and such - it's crazy. And even after my art slump I was like 'Crap, crap, maybe I'm doing something wrong and I can find a tutorial!' So I looked up tons and tons of tutorials, but my style had already sunk into my bones. (I think I see the world shaded in Multiply and Screen, now, lol...) But I've even tried other methods of shading and colouring and...I dunno... I myself would like to put up a tutorial, but I've accepted the fact that my shading/colouring style is so different from everything else out there it'd be too weird. O.o
Um... But any general PS tutorial should help - I played with GIMP a bit, but I liked the features PS has so I stuck with PS. They're basically the same, just different layout. Like everything, though, there's obviously a learning curve, and you'll eventually find all the spiffy shortcuts and stuff.
And yes, but as a wallpaper Idracil's tail or his wings will be cut off. ;-; I tried to format it with widescreen wallpaper size, but I didn't like how it cropped it.

Yeah, well whatever you are doing, you are doing it right.
I have looked at many PS tutorials and they all have different methods for everything. The other thing that I didn't like about them was that they didn't give enough info on where you could find things or how certain tools work or even where some the basic tools like the brush or others like that are. I guess experimentation is my best option.
And yes, I would like both those as wallpapers. Don't worry about being so late on messages, I know how that is. I procrastinate too much.

Yeah, that's what bugs me too. 'Cause for a while...and still...I'm looking into the technical things of PS. I freaking know how to shade and where to shade, but whenever they just suddenly throw in these shades, I'm thinking 'Oh man, what brush is that?! Is that a setting they used? Is it on another layer?' Technical things like that pervade my mind and make it hurt sometimes.

Exactly, The best ones are when they give exact details on what to do. This my take allot of time or may seem boring, but this way you can't get confused!
This is also why video tuts are great because you can see all that is happening as well! Those are definitely my favorite.

by far the best part is the breath-taking detail your put into the wings. It's very catching and it leads the eyes from one to the other
