Description Allrighty folks I'm back with my second true attempt at digitally colouring a picture. Once again I feature my internal self projection and main protatgonist of my story, Talihar. Though only at odd times does he have those markings across his face.
I tried a new style of shading, so all comments are welcome, good and bad. But if you do have a negative, add something that I could do to improve.

Thank you mango glad you like it!! allrighty, i warn you this may take awhile but I'll tell you how I did the hair. Believe it or not it started out with a base layer of medium grey. I think duplicated the layer, colorized it as a soft blue, put a layer mask over that then used a low opacity air brush and painted white over the black layer mask. That brought out the blue over the grey. I then went back to the blue layer, and burnt and dodged the hair. After some areas were black burned, I dodged them bringing out the glowing blue. I then did the highlights with a dodge tool to the point of it being white. I repeated with red to get the shine on the edges.

Everything came out very good--except for the hair. I believe, however, that this is not because of the extreme shading, but because the shadows don't touch the edges of the hair. Because this IS extreme shading, it makes your work look messy.

Also, Talihar's neck is at an odd angle. I like his eyes, though, the shading on his clothes, and what you attempted with the hair

Eek, the hair. Nobody likes the shiny magical hair lol. I tried to make it crazy because it, his eyes, and those marks are only like that when ever there is a swarm of magic around him. Though besides the story reason, I just ened up getting lazy with the hair. I still havn't found a good way to do hair. Thanks for all the advice Elena, I'll take them to mind on my next piece.

I think the best shading here is on the skin and the collar-- the collar has quite a smooth look to it that is appropriate to clothing, and the skin, again, looks smooth, and the shading is subtle. The hair shading is a bit scratchier, but considering that hair is made up of many tiny hairs, I would say that is good! Sorry I can't give any decent advice-- you know much more about computer colouring than I do!

Thanks Larissa. I need more work on the hair, I ended up getting lazy with the hair and lost the subtlty(SP???) the rest had. So I made it shiny and magical.

Hair is hard, because it requires so much detail. Shiny andf magical is a good alternative to ultra-realistic. I think the spelling is 'subtlety'-- that looks right, anyway!

Yes, I agree 100% with you hair is hard. I need to stop trying to make alternatives and learn how to do it. (hehe thanks for the spelling tip, that has never been my strongest thing. Give me a good old literature analysis.)
