And it's made all the more annoying by the fact that humans desire control.  Just like how you see people fetishizing control like that erotic text adventure that had a cow girl whose milk was so addictive the withdrawal symptoms could be fatal, people invent bizarre fantasies to convince themselves that there is order, there is control.  They would even prefer it to be sinister rather than accept that our world is chaotic.  It's this behavior that is behind the birth of many religions, and it's more popular form: conspiracy theories.  Some people would honestly prefer to think that the worst terrorist attack on US soil was conducted by the US government to create justification for war than accept the fact that a small lapse in the system lead to lunatics hijacking planes and using them to try and cripple our economy.
