MY BIGGEST BEST BEAUTIFUL BOY WHO DESERVES EVERYONE'S UNDIVIDED ATTENTION
I worked on this over the weekend between that PMV project (only three frames left to shade, backgrounds all done, just gotta edit it after!!) because I reaaaaaally want to pay more attention to Sam. Canine characters are all well and good but I love him so god damn much and honestly his story??? is more developed than you guys might think. Plus deer give me a good chance to work on different animal anatomy and I really hope that effort comes through here because god damn did I put a lot of thought into trying to make him read 100% deer. Not 'wolf with deer features'
Also I need more art of him. Like legit if any of you guys draw him this holiday season I will LOVE you FOREVER
I can't give too much away but here's some stuff for now (copied from discord when I ranted about him to the shit pit)

So like he was really young when he lost his dad. Still a fawn who was still wobbling around on its legs but could run and generally stay upright if he didn't trip. His mother always told him 'don't go near the fence' because even though there was plenty of food on the other side of it it was put together with barbed wire and it belonged to the bad men. One day he ended up wandering too far too the farm and found the fence and he didn't even really notice how far he had gone at the time but he was really friggin hungry. He tried to slip underneath it and was oblivious to the fact that it was November and a ground blind was set up 150 yards away or so. When he never came back his father rushed to go looking for him and while he ended up saving Sam so he could escape he was shot in the process. His mother was fucking DEVASTATED but didn't blame him for the accident even if, as he grew up, he lived with survivor's guilt. His mom turned into a helicopter mom too lmao so whenever he's thrill seeking with his stupid fucking friends she's always furious but he literally can't help it. Sam wasn't very social but he made fast friends with this doe named Briar from a young age and they stayed close as they grew up. She ended up dragging Hunter and Woodchuck (Chuck) into their group too and he may or may not have developed an ENORMOUS crush on her but pretty soon her and Hunter got together and it just. Broke him. But either way they're all good buds

I need. to yell. about Sam's parents for a second because I can't stop myself from giving more shit away. Names are still not set or even really thought about but basically Sam and Hunter's parents were best friends growing up. Hunter's grandfather was the king of the forest, which was this guardian that basically watched over all the deer and kept everything in balance. You could still be a loner or part of your own herd, but he was the highest ranked individual, and any animal that dared to slaughter one of his people was deemed treasonous and punished. This system was obviously super hard to keep track of since predators need to kill to eat but if anybody from his herd SPECIFICALLY went missing you were tracked down and brought in for interrogation. No objections. Grandpa rules the fucking forest. Obviously hunter's dad needed a mate so he could continue the royal bloodline and he had his heart set on Sam's mom. Take a wild stab at what happened. Either way it started an enormous feud between Sam's and Hunter's families, and after Sam's father died his mother was only permitted to stay because Hunter's father never stopped loving her. They never got together but she abused that love to help provide a safe place for Sam and care for her son.
In a nutshell, Sam and Hunter aren't SUPPOSED to be friends. Hunter's dad hates Sam's guts and wishes he were dead but would never orchestrate a murder attempt because again, he still loves his mother. As the pressure builds for Hunter to take over his father's position he struggles to try and pull a Hannah Montana, getting the best of both worlds over here where he can rule and maintain a friendship with Sam, but dumbass daddy won't let him. So it's really stressful for him, since he's being groomed to take over his father's position while still trying to hold onto the only friends he's ever called family And side note she's not really mentioned but Hunter's mother was some random bitch that his dad only fucked just so he had a child to take his place it's not a good situation

- He's the spitting image of his father and is easily one of the most handsome bucks in his herd
- Would probably be the most eligible bachelor in the fucking place if he weren't an anxiety-ridden introvert

Some Drawing Tips/General Physical Stuff
- Thickset neck/chest
- Broad shoulders
- Wide rack
- Tall but only due to his body size. Like his legs are proportionate to his body mass
- Not super muscular but there's definitely muscle there because he runs around so much and fucks with his friends
- Rounder eyes
- Handsome as fuck
- Made his design a little more simple since it's fun and relaxing in comparison to most of my other characters
