I've debated doing this for a while now... didnt know if I wanted to or not. Suddenly, one afternoon I was struck with inspiration. So here it is... the map to the Lonely Mountain from The Hobbit, burned and painted on braintanned buckskin I tanned myself. I decided to paint only Smaug, because after all he deserves to be the focus of this piece.I'm surprised at how happy I am with how it turned out. I think it has to do with the fact The Hobbit was the first fantasy book I ever read, when I was around 8 I think. Didnt even know what a goblin or a dragon was, but I liked it anyway! Big thanks to my Mom for bringing me the book from the library because she thought I might like it. This piece is dedicated to you!
The map is about 15.5"x18.5" and was displayed at "The Unexpected Artshow" in L.A in february 2013.
