Got bored, did some painting, this is the result. Not one of my better ones but I feel like I'm really getting my technique down. Let me know what you think about it.Hand painted in Photoshop, about 7 hours

Holy hell, man. This is some amazing work!!! It looks REAL. Though what others have said about originality is true, you have a specific talent. I do landscapes pretty well. Not amazing, but good enough. You do nebulae. Who cares if that's all you do? Run with it! XD

Its a nice technique, but thats primarily what it is. Once you understand how to do it, then every painting is a version of the same idea. they are lovely no argument, but it is technique.

but from what you said I only could understand :
"Every one is able to do like this once they get the trick"
I'm looking at those beautiful pieces since last year, and I can't create a world that looks the same, even if I try to use the same technique. All people learn and move differently even if the inspiration is the same.

yes but do you know HOW to do what he does?
i liken repetitive art like this to cooking, whenever i cook i get compliments, flattery and people asking why i dont open a restaurant. while i can admit that it takes a certain ability to combine flavors, i fully believe anyone can do the same quality cooking.
also please dont confuse originality with ability.
they are two different issues.
i reiterate they are beautiful and i enjoy them myself, but identify what they are and realize certain verbiage is inaccurate.

I have a brief idea. Why?
What I meant to say is : This artist's art is recognizable. If you make an artwork that makes me think of this person when I see it, then it's not good.
Cooking? Maybe I'd like to put more salt than what you said in the instructions. I'm following them, but with my style. How's that?
You ARE able to create a piece like this with the same style, if you intend. But, eventually someone drifts away from what they copy...because it's not your mind's art. Seriously, would you like to create artworks resembling this all the time?
And, I believe you'd have your own ways to do it, even if you try to make it WITH THE SAME technique. You won't put the shadows where this person puts them, you won't use the same shapes either. It's impossible as long as you don't stare 24/24 at his works.

I think one of the biggest problems with opinion about art today is people are too focused on individuality and originality.
They are fine attributes i admit, but new or original should not trump quality. I would rather have a modern day michelangelo than the entire set of studios in chelsea pier.
Now let me stop you- i think that some growth and innovation is good, but newness should NOT be a goal unto itself- merely a tool to benefit the quality of art in the world.
As for cooking? you make my point for me, you strive the make the same dish i did. these paintings are all the same dish just variations on ingredients.
