The fox looks like a raccoon, but that doesn't bother me one bit. The whole thing is so lively and exuberant even though it's more of a rough preliminary animation at this point.

Awesome stuff so far man, lots of energy and character, the movement is good, you got it all pretty much nailed down now.

There is slight confusion, which may be cleared up in clean-up, but the fox jumping, backflipping and doing something else is a little confusing, maybe maybe not a long enough hold before the dino comes in stomping around as the fox being thrown in the air in shock loses its impact.

Maybe its a case of the fox being too animated, maybe its a personal taste, maybe it just needs clean up to clear it up. lol

Anyway, great animation so far.

thanks c: yeah, a lot of that part is confusing, I may just re animate that bit and simplify it. in fact, that's what I'm going to do c:

Hehe. I like it, I can see some good stuff in the key frames. The one thing that stuck out was when the fox stops, he ends up standing on his tail.

yeah I spot that too, its on my list of things to improve before cleaning up the frames.

Thats some good Key Poses there, very animated, I can see what the final will look like already.
I should get into some decent [unrushed] animation too as I'm still a bit rusty
[link] for my latest, rushed as I had about 2 days to make it, that's what I get for trying to join something too close to the submission deadline I guess

looked great! I was kinda tempted myself by that competition but I had a load of work I needed to get done.

same here, starting game design here in a few weeks, might not have time, we'll see what happens though

GatesuRyu [2010-07-09 03:25:20 +0000 UTC]

I'm really envious of your sense of animation. I'm very analytical when I animate but your lines seem so free and lively!

tyokio In reply to GatesuRyu [2010-07-11 13:40:08 +0000 UTC]

I was at one point too really, then I saw some pieces of work that had been drawn really roughly yet managed to feel like a very strong animation. so I kinda spent ages trying to free up my hand while drawing and I feel I can now think more about the movement rather then the details of the characters design.

Dojang [2010-07-09 01:24:05 +0000 UTC]

putting in a background to emphasis a screenshake for dragon's steps?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tyokio In reply to Dojang [2010-07-09 01:28:14 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it would need one to really show whats going on. other wise the audience just sees the fox fall over for no reason.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dojang In reply to tyokio [2010-07-09 03:23:56 +0000 UTC]

that's what i saw the first time...

the alternative is to have the dragon step or jump into frame for the fox's first stumble.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tyokio In reply to Dojang [2010-07-09 18:22:35 +0000 UTC]

stuck a background in there now, looks much better.

Dojang In reply to tyokio [2010-07-10 02:34:36 +0000 UTC]

i'm reading the stomp well, but i only recognise the fox's martial arts moves as martial arts on the kick just before he falls down. maybe chuck in a quick bow at the start or something?

I do, the quicker I can get a drawing down the better I can see the movement of the character c:

lol, u shouldn't think THAT EXTREME way, what about volume control XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Snapai In reply to j-arturo [2010-09-09 15:45:29 +0000 UTC]

It's not that rough for rough animation

I mean look at Ken Duncan's Progression of Jane from Tarzan - the rough is practically stick figures at points - though the parts with volume certainly do maintain themselves!

James Baxter's Sinbad roughs are another great example, particularly when you see what something that rough turns into .

those are some great animations! definitely will save that site

tyokio In reply to j-arturo [2010-07-09 11:59:28 +0000 UTC]

I've not really had trouble with volumes in the past using this method, even though it is straight ahead animation. Scales on the other hand can go a bit off though (like the fox)

j-arturo In reply to tyokio [2010-07-09 16:43:08 +0000 UTC]

cool

i prefer a bit of pose to pose and straight ahead
