Description Commish, i have no idea how much to charge for it
-

Ok. Pain in the butt finally over with. This is a shitty photo of it, the light in this building is CRAP, so the photos didnt turn out well at all,im goping to have to remedy this sometime because this isnt a picture i get to hang onto, which is a shame because i really like how it turned out.

Its in 3 bits, theres a big gap between the bottom and middle one because of how the photo turned out, they fit together smoothly in the actual thing. The bottom image, quite obviously, had the most work done to it, and was repainted many many times. The red splodges are melted oil pastel and red crayon- this was the only way i could get it to look gross enough, paint wasnt working, it wasnt thick enough, this turned out cool even if i probably broke some building rooms about playing with he electric hobs and wax. Theres some PVA on there too for a kind of translucent gooey saliva feel. I figured that since its not digital i should abuse the kind of techniques you cant do on a computer, et voila, so if you touch the actual thing its very lumpy and bumpy.

The colour of the original is more muted lavender/purple-grey with gross red section below, but nowhere in this shit building has good enough light for my camera to pick that up. The lamp i used in the end bleached everything because its like a 3000 watt halogen piece of crap- rubbish for this kind of work.

stuck some tissue paper round the shoulders of the dood to get that texture, also to lighten it up a bit because it was too dark.

I'll upload a closeup of the bottom section once i get a better photo of it, because the detail is worth a look.

Holycrap! this is incredibly impressive! The gore is quite exquisite
I can only imagine how much more awsome it looks in real life with the texture and all. I love how it transitioned from top to bottom, with the most busy part in the bottom... I'd love to have something like this in my home!

I am curious to know, what size is it? I can sorta guess from the size of the music sheets...

TypoCity In reply to Pokoa [2007-11-13 10:00:14 +0000 UTC]

the music sheets are deceptive- in reality they are about A6

Each board here is kinda..A4 oversize. not quite A3, but bigger than A4. I think the pack said they were A3, but its a very small A3 compared to other stuff i've worked on.

Ok, thanks for the info

i always work really small, and i was thinking that putting 3 pages together like this would be a cool idea to make a bigger painting. Something i'd like to try someday...

TypoCity In reply to Pokoa [2007-11-13 19:03:43 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i tend to work really small too- i feel daunted by a large page, like i dont have as much control over the lines. When youre working small you have no room to mess up- one or two lines to get a message across. Larger you can easily get lost in detail, not put things down with as much confidence etc.

Mindsong wasnt really pencilled in- just a vague shape then i inked the rest from my head- and i think it comes across as obvious that even though most of it was..'unscripted'..there isnt as much confidence in the linework as in some of my smaller pieces- i should have used a brush to get some bold, sweeping lines in there for example. As they are theyre a little too tight - it works, thankfully, but i think if i were to redo it id want a little more fluidity

yeah i noticed your ink lines on the unpainted version and i was kinda surprised that you would start out with bold lines like that for such a painting. The result is awsome anyways. It does look sort of improvised, like you started out with a vague idea and just went along with it...

well, the girl who wanted me to do it for her had been looking through the book i was using for doodling in at the time and said she wanted something like the stuff in there- which was all straight out biro improv, so i set up a basic skull with hands and went from there. Kinda unprofessional in terms of composition and the such, but i kinda like working with unpredictability.

My vote is for "The Requiem"

haha, i wish, alas, its just some old (like really old, i think it was one of my parents from when they were kids) hymn book i found while cleaning out my room. I just chose the pages which looked more interesting to use in there.

holy hell you did a incredible amount of work to this I really love how you explain your intentions through the creation and why you did certain things. It really inspires people to look outside of the normal medium constaints some artists seem tied down by and lets them see past all that

i like it. ive got a couple designs that are multiple pages in size (1 of which is 10 pages big) so i know how much a pain in the ass it is to get them flush with each other. wish i could do stuff like this but im no good with colors.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TypoCity In reply to Demon-of-Razgriz [2007-11-01 22:41:08 +0000 UTC]

i totally cheated and taped them together, they do all flush, but when it came to taking photos the bend of the board and the lighting in the room i took them in gave some undesireable effects which lead to it being split.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Demon-of-Razgriz In reply to TypoCity [2007-11-02 00:13:52 +0000 UTC]

i tried using tape when i draw but it doesnt work out too well so i started using clip boards which works out much better. taking a picture of the whole thing is another matter where i just laid out the pieces so they looked flush and theres one of my designs that i still havent gotten the chance to take a picture of it as a whole since my digital camera is busted.
