Description This is satyr. The basic idea is that she is a creature derived from the myths of the world in which she resides. The ancient peoples saw reptiles as the bringers of life to the world, being that reptiles were the first true land animals from which all of higher life is descended- the Adam and Eve of us all as it were.

Satyr is the combined angel and devil on the shoulder of a particularly indecisive young man. She acts as his conscious and offers him advice on the dilemmas he will face ahead.

Her appearance is therefore a mix of symbols. Her face is quite snake-like and cunning. This could be her bad side- snakes in general are not seen as trustworthy creatures. Her ears and 'hair' are more sheep or goat like- lambs being signs of purity, of spring, of fresh new life. But within that is her namesake- satyr- a goat like devil creature.

Theres also the point that sheep are very much herd animals- when one is called a sheep we assume that that person is going along with the crowd or a crowds ideals. A snake, on the other hand, is a solitary creature, it is not swayed by others and holds no emotional grasp over concepts.

Wow, is this my first upload of actual art this YEAR? Holy god!

Wow, is it yet another lizard thing? why yes, yes it is.

My art teacher saw some prelimenary sketches of this and - after mistaking it for a dragon- told me that i was a one trick pony who could only do fantasy. I think he got it wrong, im a one trick pony who can only do reptiles and their feathery descendants .

She is a little squat and chubby bodywise, i probably should have bothered to look at a little lizard reference to get her proportion right, i've a habit of doing this without noticing. Neck looks kinda weird because of how much it is rotated too, but sshhhh.

Happy with this either way. Started off as sketching between STL checks on my modelling ICA and kind of took over. The more checks i had to do, the longer the gaps between me getting back to work on the thing and working on this. I've wasted a couple of hours doing this, but man, it was good to be back using traditional media for once.

Oh yeah, and im aware the pose is kinda generic etc- this was meant to be a quick sketch to get me familiar with the character that got out of hand.

i think a half man half fish and giant floating mass of swans assholes prolly count as fantasy too. thing is, surely fantasy is just 'anything you make up in your head', so, unless its life study, everythings fantasy :s
