Description
Arnott's False Dragon Captio arnottisLike most False Dragons the Artnott's lacks true flight. Instead it is able to glide using the skin flaps that stretch between its fore and hind limbs. The long tail acts as a rudder and is also used to signal potential mates and ward of predators.
Despite their realatively small size the Arnott's has a fierce disposition. They will challange foes several times their own size. During the breeding season the males become highly territorial. Fights to the death have been recorded.
Unlike many of the False Dragons the Arnott's does not combustible chemicals for defence. This makes them slightly better for captivity as the False Dragons that produce such chemicals have a reputation of spontaneous combustion in terrariums.

I like this. You are very good with a pencil. The black background makes it even better.

Amazing technique. Would like keep an animal like this, too bad that some creatures are only figments of imagination

hmmmmmm must have had the same thought on both. I go out of my way to give my opinion, I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later that I'd have the same opinion on two deviations! lol

I love how realistic you've made this picture, and how you drew it capturing a big too!
Is it a real lizard, or did you design it?

Typthis In reply to Graceful-Kuja [2011-03-14 06:52:47 +0000 UTC]
It's my own design. Also it's based more on an amphibian than a lizard, hence why they are 'false dragons' (Amphibians being related to reptiles).

I think it's more believable because it's so heavily based on a frog.

This is amazing! In the thumbnail it looked like a photo (though I imagined it was rather a pencil drawing ;D) . I like how you can really feel the movement, it's as if someone stopped a slow-motion video!
The details are amazing as always, just like the shading.
Another plus point for the informative artist's comment! 8D

I'm glad it got mistaken for a photo. I used a few photos of chameleons as reference for the tongue to get the look right.
Exploding frog dragons are comical, aren't they?
