Description
A portrait of the Gombostonian-Dubrovzkan War most grotesque yet quite common phenomenon. Dubrovzkan Vrach trying to help a wounded Gombostonian, who tries to shoot her with his already empty gun.The reason behind it is farely simple.
The People's Republic of Dubrovzka has spent more than a century in peaceful isolation with no real conflict at all aside a few internal reactionary rebellions, but those were far from the war Gomboston was about to offer to them. Dubrovzka haven't clashed with Gombostonians before, they expected that they would wage war as the Chedrihans, honouring convention treaties, prisoner rights and being reasonable in defeat, but a rude awakening awaited them.
The Gombostonian Empire has introduced Dubrovzkans the concept of total war, which while they physically were prepared to fight, mentally they were caught off guard. Soldiers fighting to the bitter end, littering their own nation with landmines, burning their houses on themselfs, entire villages raising up against the invaders, children soldiers, anything that could hold their advance was deployed which's variety shocked the Dubrovzkans.
While most of Etiarien was united in the thought, that Gomboston had this comming, most Dubrovzkans had a moral crisis over witnessing the consequences of their invasion. Most of these people were the Vraches who usually didn't recieved combat training and wasn't prepared to the horrors of war properly, which is why they wished to ease the suffering of the defeated by providing medical care for Gombostonians in need. Compassionate the thought it may was, it was nearly impossible to execute as Gombostonian soldiers usually continued fighting even with mortal wounds or moments away from death.
Dubrovzkans quickly learned the meaning of the Imperial Army's battle cry.

If the soldiers of Gomboston can be brainwashed to this point.. I don't know what to think.. either they are really gullible or they are rabid fanatics like our muslims terrorists nowadays.. whom I don't like at all..
Or maybe they are robots..
I don't know what kind of war books you've read.. but from the ones I read (and from my grandpa's memories) the mood of the soldiers in war is not exactly the one you've described.. To me, this 100% patriotism seems a bit simplistic and unrealistic..
It is perfectly fine, of course! This is a fictional story.. and even more important is YOUR story!
The picture is very well drawn! Shows a lot of improvements! I hope you don't give up the idea of making a comic....

Actually he does not want to shoot her, because of patriotism, any kind of sentimental feelings or even choice, just only because Gombostonians are basicly cornered rats in every situation on every part of the world.
Gombostonians are generally hated by almost everyone, with good reason and their belief is simply, if they don't fend for themselfs at any prize they just get obliterated for their past sins. And when a few million Dubrovzkans swarming your nation with really nothing in their way to stop them, they become even more desperate.
You can't really blame them thinking this way. They basicly earned their reputation so the fear from retribution is quite humanly, not to mention that logically no nation would have any reason to be fair or merciful towards them upon defeat, so either they are patriots or just want to protect those who still have a shoot in life, they have to give everything.
Even at the siege of Berlin, soldiers fought with all of their zeal. Not because they believed the few sqare kilometer of ruins they can call the Third Reich nor because of something greater than their life, but because until the Germans called quits and peace was declared they were either shoot down or get raped by the Soviets, regarding of gender :I Fight or die... I don't think there's much patriotism needed there to decide.
(btw, historical Japanese Empire :I pretty much this attitude)
Remember Tyranio wasn't fighting after his civil life, because of patriotism or something noble, but for his and Reiny's life and kept going so forth until the crown. Even after his emperorship, he was waging war because the other options were burned up.
But even so you are right that it's a little unrealistic, but as I said at the beginning I like to over overexaggerate some traits of each race. According to realism no nurse would give a damn about the enemy and I would got a lot of the same people who just wear different coloured uniforms and wants the war to end. Not really engaging even if it's good for drama, but utterly boring to see millions of disillusioned people suffering together.
But thank you, I'm still not gave up that idea, just playing with it

No ship in here. None of them even have a name. Allthough I might make a character out of the girl... I'm quite short on foreigners.
And thank you And yup the chamber must be open or else the "click, click, click" would be followed by "boom, boom, boom"

Well, Gombostonians aren't really familiar with defeat (I mean in war, not a battle) and they firmly believe that if they give everything for the Vaterland, they will prevail. This would be the case if they would not be freshly tattered from the Eight Chedrihan War and the Dubrovzkans would not be so well equiped. Still they stubbornly try to fend of the invaders and keep their beloved Empire and independence. (Gombostonians lived for quite many centuries under Eterath rule before as mere peasants and that memory still haunts them until this very day)
Not to mention propaganda. Most Gombostonian are ignorant what foreigners are like and they basicly have to believe the crap that the "Ministry of Truth" gives them. This does not mean that they are so stupid to believe whatever the ministry tells them, but since everyone hates Gombostonians they choose to believe that and let their illusions strenghten them instead.
If they don't fight, they die... at least that would be the case with any other invader, but Dubrovzkans only going to kill off the nobility and the rich.
This peasant chap however probably survive the war, as he seems short on bullets and his bayonet probably was on his rifle which isn't here.

Yup and now our blonde "heroes" probably won't going to taste victory for some time. I don't know, if they will even win a battle during the invasion. It will be like the reverse Operation Barbarossa with humane Soviets, only without any turning point in it
Timing is everything as they say.

Yeah. Nearly 40 years of preparations just to overwhelm their enemies over a year. Patience did payed off to Dubrovzka... and having the largest nation and population on the planet certainly helped the war effort.

It's the Dubrovzkans who are the wise They bided their time for the right time to invade Gomboston... allthough that's something they didn't really wanted in the first place, but the constant failures of Chedrihans forced them to stop the Gombostonians before they would consume the whole continent.
As for Gombostonians, well they aren't wise by any means, but rather cunning to compensate. Of course they live out their talent in war, capable to adapt to nearly every situtation and quickly correct their flaws during the execution. Of course against plain brute force they meet their match, which is why the I. Empire will fall.

God damn it. The feels strike again //I also need to faving your new pieces like what
As I go with my usual formula (praise then criticism), I'm happy we got something new, since you haven't done much with Dubrovzka. And like I said in my first paragraph, it's quite emotional.
The thing I see wrong is the lighting. By the looks of the sky and I assume those white lines are raindrops, the light seems a bit too bright. When it comes to this sort of thing make the brighter part darken, so it appears as a soft light.

Thank you. Yeah, I really should sway away the attention from Gomboston for a while.
As for the lighting, yeah that is rain without clouds nonetheless. The background wasn't my creation this time, so I just added the usual darkening filters to make it more pleasing to the eye. It was even more brighter than now. But yeah, I see your point, it really looks a tad (or more) unnatural.

Welcome. And yes, let us see something other than blondes in grey.
Meh, sun rain is possible. I've seen it before.
I can tell, since you have 2D figures on a 3D land. Strange. Adding a dark filter but it became brighter? Something's up.
Yeah. It seems out of place since there's a dark sky yet their faces show sunshine.

Well... it's mainly just the brightness of the background that I changed, so it should not be more of that. Since changing their brightness would mess up most of the colours, i changed the background so they can fit in more.
