Description The 205m long Kongo or in some sources Mogami class Battleships was the largest ship class remained in the service of the Earth Defence Force at the time of the Earth-Gamillan war.
After Yamato's return from it's voyage to Iscandar, these ships like the rest of the surviving ships received an upgrade package, This particular refit featured the instalment of wave motion reactor, replacement the old Positron guns with powerful shock cannons, enlarged bow shock cannon, removal of all the CIWS, added heavy and light pulse laser guns, wave motion shields and Cosmo Zero space superiority fighters.
These improvements vastly increased the effectiveness of these vessels to provide effective defence for Earth while the new ship designs could be produced in enough numbers.

The refit's feature these new weapon systems:
1x1 46cm shock cannon
4x3 36cm shock cannons,
4x2 12,7cm heavy pulse lasers,
12x2 76mm pulse lasers,
8x torpedo tubes,
16x missile tubes
2X starfighters

Well, a new trailer for fifth Yamato 2202 film/episode came out:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g6ARw…

And now for the first time, we actually get to see the cruisers from the old second series and the refitted Kongo class ships fire their bow mounted guns! (0:48)

In both cases, the bow cannon appears to be a smaller wave motion gun. I figured that the new cruisers would have one given the look of the bow cannon, but I was surprised that the refitted Kongo's had a wave motion gun this entire time after the war with the Gamilas Empire.

Yes I've seen it, I'm not sure it is a wave motion cannon. The sounds is indeed that of the charging gun of the Wave Motion Gun, but the "speed" of the Beam is too slow for a Wave Motion Gun Tachyon Beam!

senkan19 In reply to Tzoli [2018-04-20 20:14:32 +0000 UTC]

When you put it like that... it does make sense that the beam did seem a little slow.

So... who knows.

But anyway, holy hell... I did not except the huge number of Dreadnought-class battleships that Earth had at its disposal the first time I saw this trailer.

Yes this new series plays with the numbesr like a maniac. I'm not sure that is a good choice.

It does seem to be too much.

First, the insane armada of capital ships the Gatlantis used back two films/episodes ago to turn themselves into a giant gun pointed at Earth...

And now we have TWO armadas of ships from both sides clashing at Saturn.

GAT-X139 [2017-03-23 03:54:41 +0000 UTC]

One thing that I never understood about these designs (which are aweesome nonetheless) is the fins on the design and how in order to fire its forward mounted guns it must then omit firing a portion of its arsenal in order not to hit the forward fins of the ship.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tzoli In reply to GAT-X139 [2017-03-23 05:57:57 +0000 UTC]

it took a matter of seconds to turn the ship a few degrees for the vertical fins to get out of the way, also there is the bow mounted shock cannon to do the firing directly forward. And like in Naval battles, in space battles broadsides was the preferred firing style, to bear all guns to the target.

Looks awesome! I like how all of these have resembled the ships from 2202. Of course, that's the main idea for it, but it's still cool! I wonder if you'll do a ship like that Apollo North, one of the EDF Andromeda Carriers.
(Apollo North is the blue carrier version with the white stripe along her sides.)

skaianDesitiny In reply to SBB-67Montana [2017-03-22 23:26:58 +0000 UTC]

It's actually Apollo Norm, being a reference to the supercarrier from Submarine 707R.  Tzoli dislikes the Andromeda carrier design, so that's kind of unlikely.  Although maybe we could see a more tradition battlecarrier design like this: www.pixiv.net/member_illust.ph…

SBB-67Montana In reply to skaianDesitiny [2017-03-22 23:31:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah. I saw the name but it was hard to tell what it was before "Apollo". It looked like "North" so that's the name I assumed it had. And that's sad to hear. Nice design, however.

Yes, I don't like the Apollo subclass of the Andromeda, I prefer the old Lexington. I might draw that or an Andromda hull variant of it (Lexington hull was based on the Borodino (Now Dreadnought) hull)

Old Borodino:

Oh, thanks! Interesting take on the Borodino in their behalf. You should make a Lexington version of this, and maybe give it a new class name.

Tzoli In reply to SBB-67Montana [2017-03-23 20:51:24 +0000 UTC]

Apollo is a good name, the design of it I don't like. That large and wide protruding hanger section from the superstructure looks ugly and structurally difficult to hold. Yes in space you don't have issues with that but these ships built on Earth! Same way I looked weird on JJ Abrams Constitution Enterprise when built on Earth!!!

skaianDesitiny In reply to Tzoli [2017-03-23 23:19:34 +0000 UTC]

If/when they release a side view I'll attempt my edit of the Apollo Norm with the lowered hanger deck.

SBB-67Montana In reply to Tzoli [2017-03-23 20:56:27 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. I have a hunch all the Andromeda classes, and the Apollo subclass, will relate to Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. And I think it has a unique look, but that superstructure looks unstable. I would've gone for a design like the Resurrection Blue Noah for a carrier subclass.

Tzoli In reply to SBB-67Montana [2017-03-23 21:16:39 +0000 UTC]

Blue Noah with her extreme wing would fit better for the Apollo type hanger arrangement aft but on the wing rather where it is located now on Apollo

SBB-67Montana In reply to Tzoli [2017-03-23 21:20:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I agree. That's why I thought of Blue Noah for inspiration. Maybe you could do that to see how that idea works.
