It's time that I learn to face up to this - on my own.
Every now and then, the topic of female prevalence within competitive gaming comes up. There's politics discussed, like this theory I have that the idea of security - whether spousal, fiscal, or otherwise - has been pushed on millennial females. Eventually, this always ends up being one of the subtopics brought up in those debates. And so, people have asked me how I - born, raised and identifying as female - feel about "being overshadowed" by transgender female gamers. Beyond millennial psychological politics within the binary spectrum, that contribute to the study of mechanical skill or will to dedication - that's absolutely unimportant. My stances on people are that people are people, but if she wants to play video games for her, then let her play video games for her. She represents my gender if she says she does, inside and outside of gaming.I have a couple of different "what if?" headcanons for D.Va; this was one of them that I really wanted to make a shoddy SFM comic about. It heavily references the story of a former SC2 player , who was a big believer of "my gender doesn't matter, my skill does". It's something I've tried to carry with me while doing jobs for various eSports and video gaming clients. (Oh, and it also features our favourite 2fast2quick2heroes.)

I think I've got a grasp on how to do D.Va's character a little more uniquely than the standard meme machine that Blizzard and the community have made her out to be. It took me a bit but I realized there might be a lot I can get behind on D.Va's history, as ridiculous as it may be. I'll see what I can do, glad you like my stuff!

I agree with dva. I'm a guy that likes playing video games. But when a sjw comes along its always sexists that there's no women's leagues more specifically when there's a league, they want the word women stamped in front of it. When it's just a league that let's women in sjws criticize it for no reason other than the word women isn't there.

Women's leagues are controversial because there's a lot of arguments that while they encourage females to play video games at a competitive level, it might not drive them to continue improving if they're comfortable in a women's league. Fact of the matter is people will always shit on you. Women have it slightly tougher because if they're good, they - whether they like it or not - need to maintain that/rise above because they are now representing their whole gender. They have to be good to "prove something" because people are focusing on their gender instead of their play.
People who are smart can go "she keeps trying to cheese it even though she can't anymore, she's so bad". Others will go "look at how bad this female player is, this is proof girls aren't good at video games". Or, "hey, she's pretty good - for a girl" if she's capable of competing at a decent level. What does her gender have to do with it? It's a heavy argument with two sides to it.

I know, but sadly to leftist and sjws it's always about gender. Regular gamers like me don't care about gender, like say I play halo or destiny and I'm in a pvp or pve match, if the player is really good then I send a friend request if your bad I'll help you along the best of my timely ability regardless of gender, he'll I help my sister play Destiny and she likes halo and loves playing that with me and my friends at party's and they don't shoo her away just because she's a girl, but that aside there will still be those people guy or girl (that's the very low pit of the population) that do say that men or women are better at video games. But that's life there will be people who criticize others that are such @$$holes buts it's best to ignore those people. But it's ok to take criticism from people who suggest how to do something better or see a flaw in a particular play style.

The substance of it is the story. D.Va, Tracer and Lucio's dialogue itself was written as closely as I imagined them speaking - with an overabundance of internet memes and cheese. Blizzard is notorious for their puns and their stupid memes.

I had this "what if?" idea that's sort of explained in Part 1 as well. When D.Va was younger, she wasn't always the person she is now. He struggled to figure out what he wanted when he was thrown into the gaming world at a very young age. Eventually, she learned who he really wanted to be - and after a while, she changed herself to be that person she wanted to be. This was considered a bad decision from the sponsors she had at the time, who dropped her out of not wanting to deal with the controversy.
As time passed, people continued to embrace D.Va as not just a gaming icon and a role model, but a hero for South Korea. Every now and then, the controversy comes back from people who still have an issue with that past incident - but D.Va shakes it off because she's got too many bad guys to frag.
