Thanks! I either use my CNC or carve by hand into 1/2" blue or pink insulation foam from Lowe's or Home Depot as a base usually (it's really cheap, about $10 for 32 square feet in my area), then clean it up, paint, and make a silicone mold from that. I cast them in Smooth-Cast 320 plastic for finished versions in most cases, unless I need something clear.

I also use spackling, clay, and bondo to build up or fill in gaps as needed in the prop, depending on what part I'm working on. Hm, that's kind of just an overview, it'd be fun to talk more about how to do it if you'd like, I always enjoy talking shop with other prop makers or those who want to try it out!
