Honestly, the whole Jack Frost x Elsa ship I don't get why it's a thing, it just seems to me that the main reason people ship them is that they have the same powers. Well, whoopty-doo, what does that have to do with anything, what does coupling them up based on their ice abilities have to with their characters, in my opinion: nothing. The same can be said for Sub-Zero here. Plus I find pairing characters who are almost the same kind of boring, there's not a lot you can do with them in terms of chemistry and characterization comparisons and contrasts, it just feels safe and bland, and not interesting or challenging. I think what would be more interesting, is if these characters: Jack, Elsa or Sub-Zero, are paired with characters who are like the opposites of them, in this case, maybe characters who have like heat-based and fire abilities, it'd be more interesting because of how the characters' differences compare and contrast with each other, how what makes them different from each other can compliment and benefit themselves and also challenge themselves as characters. But that's just me, I've always liked opposites attracting to each other because it gives me insight into who those characters are and how they work together.

I used to (still kinda do) ship Gaara X Toph (Naruto and Avatar). Gaara's quiet, aloof and serious; Toph is brash, proud and openly loves to mess around. Their powers were also similar enough so that they could relate in abilities - earth-related and dependent on the ground beneath them - but still different enough that they're unique and can stand apart (sand is fluid and manueverable, stone is firm and strong). A weird mix of opposing personalities and similar-yet-still-unique powers.
Although, if we're talking Jack, Elsa and Sub-Zero, I do prefer Sub-Zero x Elsa over Jack. They just have more going for them, the way I see it.

From what I hear, "Frozen" was indeed originally more of an action movie, with the villain being an evil Troll King, so Elsa would have used her powers in combat against the Troll King and his army. When Hans became the villain in later drafts, the Trolls were reworked to be heroes.
Still, "Disney Infinity" gives you an opportunity to use Elsa's power in combat.
