My goal for this piece was to create a graceful blend of human and animal that didn't come off as just another type of furry. I'm not sure I entirely succeeded, but I still enjoyed working on this piece. They are meant to be a mix of human and the many types of egrets and herons I've seen while living in Florida.These two are members of species that live on a continent entirely covered in 2 to 10 feet of water. Narrow, towering islands of rock dot the landscape, resembling great archways, spires, and castles. They create woven cities on the tower islands, elaborate arrangements of reeds halfway between birds' nests and houses.

I think you succeeded rather well; you imagined anew blend of two vastly dissimilar species and blended them into one seamless and highly possible alien one. Their environment is unique, as is their social structure, not to mention the detail you displayed in their sexual dimorphism. The tribal touch is inspiring. I really love this design! They do look very elegant and beautiful, and I also love all the details you added (their clothing/jewelry/accessoirs). It makes it easy to imagine their whole culture and way of life. The woven cities are a great idea! They look very intruiging.
At first the woman's face made me thing of a barn owl (one reason I immediatly liked her). You're right, herons and egrets are really beautiful, and I think the perfect birds for what you had in mind!

I love their designs, especially their faces. They remind me a little of feathered dinosaurs, which I think is pretty interesting, seeing as that's what birds evolved from, and probably would've eaten whichever contemporary we evolved from. They seem almost like the kind of creature that would have its likeness painted on primitive temple walls.

As a rule I dislike bird anthro pieces. I will say now that you have taken that rule, thrown it on the floor, smashed it and I couldn't thank you more. This is simply stunning.

I think they're both very beautiful and you've succeeded in your goal in my opinion. V^^V I like how you didn't opt to make them cliche sexy hybrids like a lot of people do, which I think is one factor that furries have, but rather making them look more soft and gentle looking. You did best in giving them the perfect balance of human and bird. For some reason my first thought of this was bird version of Avatar.
