Thanks, that's a great way of looking at it. In a way, it does have a lot of engineering aspects to it.

Thank you for the tutorial. I'm a great one for playing with the merge modes but for some reason it hasn't occured to me to play with the opacity. I shall from now on

Thanks, Sue. I'm sure there are a lot of people who think this is too basic, but it's great to hear that it helped someone out. I'm firmly convinced that without mastering the merge modes, you can only go so far and will never get the truly great images.
