Description -As Recorded by the Human Ascendancy-

Serus system, home of the Jewel Planet, as recorded in the Great Library and its Account of the Earth Civilization. Vast Mediterranean landscapes stretched across the equator around its main populated continent. The north held mountains and deserts lie south. Its vast cities had become medieval and backwards after the Fall but under the leadership of the Proper Monarchs, Aragorn and Castille of the Ascendency Planetship Granada, they returned it once again to the light of civilization.

However, Serus system lay at the very edge of the original Spiralward Territories, on the border with the Galactic Fringe. Vast swarms of insectoids had, millenia ago, conquered the humans there, twisting them and changing them. Despite the righteousness of the Reconquista by the Ascendancy, the forces of the vile insectoid Interstellar Union invaded Serus.

Many years Granada, the Planetship, led by the Proper Monarchs, Aragorn and Castille, battled against the foes of humanity. The impure humans and their insectoid masters laid claim to Serus. Auxilia, Paladins and Mech-knights under the guide of Proper Marines led the defence. Still, wave after endless wave of suicidal insectoid forces breached the lines and entered the cities.

Serus was lost, its cities burning, the sky choked with swarm ships and the people weeping. The royal court, distraught at the cataclysmic defeat of the Ascendancy's forces pleaded for the beloved Aragorn and Castille to flee the system so that they may live and return once again to free the people from tyranny.

-------

So this one, I didn't use any references in particular, although the names are just a random grab from the actual Reconquista. Aragorn and Castile (I spelled it Castille just to anglicize it some more) are places where the "Catholic Monarchs" are from, the people behind the final battle of the Reconquista.

The Human Ascendancy typically never admits defeat and losing something like a Planetship is basically appropriately disastrous. Really, planetships just flee if they ever lose and nobody would bother chasing it, as its biascally a giant moon-sized ball of defence batteries.

I don't really make good/bad guys in my universes. The Human Ascendancy forcibly took over Serus from its previous rulers, crushing them in war, imposed their own law and value system on the people, believing it to be superior to whatever they had before. Then after some time, after the Ascendancy felt that the humans in the Interstellar Union were "wrong" (because they were genetically altered and because their society was so radically different) declared war on them, sent ships against them and a long war ensued. Serus was taken out in a counter attack by the Interstellar Union.

So, what's "wrong" about the IU from the Human Ascendancy's perspective? Well, the Interstellar Union is a collection of nations that are multiracial, between insectoids and humanoids. There's a number of step species that were genetically engineered to create a reproductive link between humans and insectoids (there's a loose genetic link but obviously insectoid xenobiology is so different they dont have DNA). Humans in the Galactic Fringe, having lost the original war with the insectoids, managed to not get wiped out before the idea of multiracialism popped in.

Since then, humans had been genetically tampered with by the insectoids to create the step species. Human society also became a bunch of communist ecovillages, with a capitalist intervillage economic system. As many things, such as technology, were modelled after insectoid value systems, all humans became female (although they are also all fertile unlike the 1 in a million fertility rate the insectoids have). Human males have disappeared, so anybody who sees a human male in this society would just think the person an odd looking female. All this tampering and social structure makes them look "wrong" and "unnatural" to the Ascendancy. Thus, they figure they must be purged.
