Description EDIT: For those of you who do not have a paid subscription on DA, I have made the stamp into a plz!

Because without -all- of you, the stamp's message would fall on deaf ears.

Also, I've modified that stamp a little, taking away its drop-shadow and changing the typography so hopefully, though its just words is a little more appealing to look at now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never thought I'd ever make one of these, but lately been wanting to make several little stamps.

Anyone is welcome to use it. You don't have to but it would be nice to hear from you if you do wind up using it.

It is a simple one, no fancy images just a simple statement of which I think some people need reminding :3

Art is subjective, just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it is not art. Reversely, if you like it it does not mean that it is. What defines art for one person is completely different for the next.

I could speak on this subject in far more depth, but I don't think I need to. It's been said before me and I am sure it will be a topic of some debate long into the future, as long as people have opinions. :3

Thats not true :\ I mean art is nothing without the audience. The artist dies, and the audience lives on. So in all fairness art is what they make of it. If I only made art for myself then I wouldn't be sharing it on a website, and honestly I wouldn't have nearly as much fulfillment as I have with it now without knowing that people are seeing it. Art is about expressing yourself, and to keep it huddled down inside for your own gain is exhausting and fruitless. How can you grow if you don't seek to understand what the audience thinks?

I think you maybe misunderstand what was being said, a bit.
Infact, your statement is actually in agreement with what is being said ^^:

All I am saying is art is subjective, "you" is anyone

aaah you is anyone. I got it now ^.^

I didn't have any rudeness or rant to my tone at all, just so you know. I don't talk like that >.> didn't mean any disrespect.

Well when you join DA you're going to be pleasing or displeasing people by default. That's why there are watchers and friends.
If you only want to please yourself, why do you join sites where many people can view your art and be pleased or displeased by it?

What they mean is, as long as you're happy with your work, it doesn't matter what others say.

xXREapERCHiLDXx In reply to S31KA [2013-01-04 00:22:42 +0000 UTC]

Well if it doesn't matter what others say, why post it up on deviantART where people can comment on it and tell you what they think

It makes no sense. If you want to keep your art for yourself, don't post it online. Because then it won't be for you, it'll be for you AND anybody else who sees it.

Nothing to say? Thought so. Sorry, but there's just no logic in this. Don't put art up online where everyone can see it if you want to keep it for just yourself.

Aw, this is a very nice stamp. I mean, some people make accounts just to tell people that they didn't make art. While I understand they think they are helping, it's a bit mean-spirited. So this is a good reminder. Nice job!

Yeah, I dont think people like that are doing anything to help. there is a difference between giving a critique and just spouting "this isnt art"

I agree, but it still doesn't mean that a picture of a naked woman, holding her breasts in a seductive way, while she's only wearing thongs, is art.
There is a limit though, and of course(!) a lot of pictures of different things can be called art, as long as it's thought through and there's a deeper meaning to it, and of course the fact that people find it interesting in other ways than feeling horny so I fully agree with you there!

Just felt like adding the thing with the naked woman, as I see way too much nude art, which just seem like a cheap try to get a boyfriend, on a website which the person never should've visited - many does it, no need to name any, and it's not just women or girls, men/boys too..

I found this stamp not too long after a teacher of mine dissed on Deviantart. Calling it shallow and just a load of you know what. Well i took offense to this because DeviantArt brings so much different art to the table. He always goes on about how you have to find the meaning in all the art, to he contradicted himself.

In any case your stamp really fit my mood for the situation. Each piece of art has to be observed as an individual not as though you are judging it by the looks of the whole site. Each person should have their own opinion of the piece and not be influenced by how somebody tells you how to see something.

Thank you for making such a nice stamp. :3 a definite fave! <3

Yeah, tbh that sounds like a contradiction to call devart shallow. Do you know if he was trying to speak of it generally, its user base or the art/artists itself?

And thank you for your own input and feeling. <3

fire-phoenix-kai In reply to ultravioletbat [2010-10-26 14:13:46 +0000 UTC]

He was talking of the art itself x_x he said the whole site is basically "ohh look what I drew" and none of the art had more depth than that > I tells ya if he brings it up again, I will rip the logic to shreds. The only think I really have against DA is that sometimes it's a game of popularity. And that there is no hourly popular page xD

BlueSolitaire [2010-03-22 18:19:51 +0000 UTC]

Well said.

I've bumped into people who don't think photography, literature, music or poetry is "art". Huh. Funny...DeviantART is LOADED with all that. And we should tell the folks at the Museum of Fine Arts they're wrong too while we're at it. (just kidding. )

Art, only in my opinion (and I know we all all different), is personal expression through creation of a craft (cloth, wood, glass, stone, clay, etc.), a sound, a thought, a concept (tangible or otherwise), a movement (dancing, etc.), and other things I forgot. That might do it. Ergo, if you drew the Mona Lisa in the dust on the back windshield of someone's car (which has been done!) that's art. It's not necessarily WHAT you use, it's HOW you EXPRESS it.

I'll go stand in the corner now. Great stamp, great message and bless you for making it into a Plz Account so everyone can appreciate/use it.
