too insect-like. go with a stone/rock look since this evolution line is living rock try a changing the look to that and see how you like it. i will say this nice originality though the insect idea does not really pan out. i do not understand the idea of them being bugs since these are rock/ground types. all the eyes need to be redone to almost hollows, an action shot would have worked to show off what they can do. i suggest going through the pokedex again to get reference. even though i do somewhat understand the idea it needs to be redone to the pokemon standard using references from the game.

Um, I have to say something here. I understand that this is supposed to be realism for pokemon, but Gigalith's evolution line isn't even based off or even resembles a lobster. It is a pebble, then a stagnite, then a huge boulder/mountain.

Duh.
Of course, the idea here is to interpret how it could actually exist. I have never seen a pebble move around on its own, let alone evolve into a boulder or anything. The goal is to create those plausible creatures that resemble the pokemon it's inspired on. What better way to represent a rocky structure than the use of an exoskeleton?

Okay, I was just pinting it out, that's all. I do things like that.

I wouldn't have drawn the connection, but your design makes sense. With as abstract as some pokemon concepts are, I think you did a good job associate them with something on earth. Also Gigalith looks like a late game boss monster. Really cool!

These three Pokemon as a type of crab, huh? I never could've made that connection.

I love how you based roggenrola off of rollypollies. I could never have thought of that.

I for one, wholeheartedly agree with the crustacean interpretation.Β  Scientifically speaking, many invertebrates make their shells out of minerals, especially calcite and other materials that are water soluble.Β  Hence, it is a rock type that is weak to water.

I never would have thought to make these things crabs. Pretty creative concept...nice work.

why crabs?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ultyzarus In reply to terraprower [2013-08-28 23:35:16 +0000 UTC]

Because I wanted to go with a more life-like biological approach. The only animal that could fit the looks of Roggenrola (especailly having a hard shell) and live in a cave that wouldn't just look water-type was the woodlouse. I then imagined the evolutions from the same crustacean concept.

honestly, i got a good look at it, its overall looks gave me a dinosaur feel, mainly the lizard shaped head in which you can look at in pokedex 3d

i wasnt trying to be rude btw..... i just didnt see it as a crawfish..... i mean the irony of a crustacean being weak to water.....

Ultyzarus In reply to Aexeiz-Deuam [2013-07-26 00:04:51 +0000 UTC]

No, I was actually enjoying the idea of a different concept too! But you know, crustaceans don't always live in water

How long did it take you to come up with this concept? It's absolutely incredible the way you made something so unrealistic become something very much so...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ultyzarus In reply to 12weekly [2013-06-10 15:24:26 +0000 UTC]

It took me a few hours I think. The first challenge was roggenrola. I wanted to use some cave-dwelling animal that wouldn't fall in the Bug Type, and came up with a woodlouse. Then Boldore came on its own. It was with Gigalith that I struggled the most. I had to go on with the crustacean theme, but had trouble with its head/face standing in the middle of the body rather than in front... So I imagined its mock-faced crest

love the Roggenrolla, absolutely perfect as well as a convincing organic design, I would have beefed up Boldore and Gigalith just a little to more closely resemble a rocky texture and done away with the crustacean limbs, or just make then smaller and vestigial and have the number of weight supporting limbs match the anime versions. very well done, amazing work
