Well here's my Christmas pic I promised. Of course, Feral and Callie are traced and the Turbokat is a cut and paste, the rest is all me and remember, I'm not an artist so be kind.Characters courtesy of Hanna-Barbera.
I wrote a story to go with it. It's called Christmas Mission. Hope you enjoy them both!

When you say Callie and Feral are "traced" what exactly do you mean? Did you print out a screengrab of the image and trace over that?
Likewise, what do you mean the Turbokat was a "cut and paste"?

Hi gal, been a long time since I've heard from you.
Trace means I had images I copied a long time ago and used them to trace the image I wanted while others I just put paper to my computer screen and traced the screen grabs from the SWAT Kat Encyclopedia. Then I copied it with a scanner then colored. Cut and paste is just like kids cutting pictures and pasting the onto their picture. Nothing technical about it! LOL I really am a very poor artist and this is the best I can do. I seem to draw backgrounds better than people or as in this case Kats.

Well I guess then I'm the only one to be honest with you here and say that tracing isn't something you should continue doing. Learning they say is fine. A method to use that would better help however would be sight based drawing. Work with your pencil, get a feel for the characters by observing them then drawing on paper what you see. There are even model sheets available where the basic shapes of the characters are shown, working up to the finished character.
Tracing is normally frowned upon among artists, and the excuse of "I'm a poor artist" and "this is the best I can do" doesn't fly. Your backgrounds are lovely, but compared to your traced work, they do not fit and it is obvious that the characters were traced without you even telling us. I can see you have talent with your backgrounds. Now it's time to work more on the characters themselves. Don't use skill level as a reason to half do something, believe you can do better and put in the effort to try and get the desired results.

Thank you for your honest appraisal of my work. Sorry doll, but my poor hands do not allow very much. I'm a writer and I know that talent very well and a computer keyboard is easier. As for drawing, I really would like to take a course in basic drawing because I really would like to do it. I see how much work my daughter does for it and my arthritic fingers aren't always happy campers some days. My family is very talented in a lot of art fields, so hopefully I can join them in the drawing side some day.

You should be able to join in on the drawing side. I know an artist with lupus who's slowly gotten more arthritic unfortunately, but they have learned to work around it, take it at a slower pace. My mother is totally blind but did ceramics for many years, even winning a few prestigious awards. I've also heard about a quadriplegic woman who paints using her mouth to hold the brush and does lovely work. Don't let your arthritis become an excuse for not learning and continuing to just trace, because you never know what you can do despite any ailments. <3

I don't intend to hence the writing like mad! LOL I've got over 146 stories on ff.net now. Does wonders for my hands. Really want to learn to draw better and will as soon as we've completed our move and settled into our new home. Unfortunately, I have to get through surgery to remove a tumor on my kidney next month. When it rains it pours I guess. Anyway, not worried, have great doctors and expect to be back on my feet again by late March. Keep up your great work. Neat that your mother is so talented despite her handicap. My mother paints representations of postcards, enlarged on canvas in oils. So we're both lucky to have such talented family members. Oh, and tracing is just because I was too impatient to get the image in my mind on paper. Yeah, I know that's juvenile but gee, sometimes I just want to be a kid. It does get tiring sometimes being an adult to a bunch of teens all the time believe me! But don't worry, its a temporary phase. LOL
