Commission for
Bryn is a type of mage known as a Hollow One. They are like pop-culture Goth mages - they cast their spells using tarot, "occult" books bought in supermarkets, and rituals they saw on Buffy or Angel. But since they have genuine magical power, that stuff actually works for them, to the extreme annoyance of more traditionalist mages.
Bryn, for instance, uses a "crystal skull" that's actually a perspex paperweight for necromancy.

Uly often adds an extra dimension to my characters when he does a portrait of one of them. Bryn's face has a calmness about it, a sense of maturity and empathy, which I hadn't expected to see, and yet it's absolutely ideal.
And yes, that gold detailing on the collar and cuffs is really beautiful
